This past Saturday the Lady Dillos traveled to Early to face the Lady Longhorns in their first scrimmage. Scrimmages are valuable because they give us a gauge of where we are at this point in time and they allow us to see areas that we must improve. Early is the defending district champion of our old district alignment and they have another strong team this year. However, the Lady Dillos are a much-improved team and we were ready for the challenge. The JV played two 15-minute halves and the Varsity played two 25-minute halves. Both groups did a great job and were able to execute things both offensively and defensively. The Lady Dillos came up short by 5 points in both sessions, but I was very proud of our effort and the way we battled. Early had a big advantage over our girls in the height and weight department, but we did not back down. We have a quick and athletic team, and defensively we were physical and caused numerous turnovers with our pressure. Overall, it was a very beneficial scrimmage and we were able to take a lot of positive things away from it. We will continue to work hard every day and improve with each practice. The Lady Dillos will have one final scrimmage against Lampasas before we open up the season versus Ingram. The scrimmage against Lampasas will be at Armadillo Arena on Nov. 1st and we will begin play at 5 p.m.The junior high Lady Dillos will have their first game of the year on Nov. 5th in Mason. The Combo team will play at 5 and the 8th grade team at 6. The JV and Varsity will open up the season in Ingram. The JV will begin at 5:00 and the Varsity will follow at 6:30.
