Cross Country had a successful district meet in Eden on Wednesday. Laci Moreno earned a spot at the Regional meet with her 4th place finish. Tommy Henegar won the JV division, and Barbara Uribe placed 16th. In the junior high division, Lexi Wagner placed 9th, Kaytlin Shannon placed 32nd and Ethan Martin placed 17th. Good luck to Laci, who will run in San Antonio at 10 a.m. on Saturday.The JH Indians continued their winning roll as they took on the Oglesby Tigers on Thursday. Ethan Martin led the Indians off with a touchdown with 3:39 remaining in the first quarter. With 1:30 remaining Jordan Lilly found the end zone, bringing the score to 12-0. The second quarter found Kellen Everett scoring with 4:20 on the clock. The Indians elected to go for the extra point and J.D. Bell ran it in to bring the Indians to a 19-0 lead. With 2:28 left in the half Lilly scored his second touchdown of the night. Everett scored on the Indians’ next possession. Uriel Arredondo’s PAT gave the Indians a 33-0 lead. Arredondo intercepted a Tiger pass seconds later. With less than five seconds remaining in the half Bell intercepted another Tiger pass. He ran it back almost 70 yards for a touchdown. The Indians went into halftime with a 39-0 lead. Everett scored his third and final touchdown of the night with 5:50 on the third period clock, ending the game at 45-0. Due to Prairie Lea choosing not to play against us, this was the deciding game for district championship. Congratulations, JH Indians, 2012 District Champions! The Indians will have their final game of the season against Rochelle this Thursday. The Indians traveled to Oglesby to take on the Tigers Friday night. The Indians came out strong and with 9:00 on the clock E.J. Borchers recovered a Tiger fumble. With 6:21 remaining Borchers scored the Indians first touchdown of the game. The Indian defense held strong and with 3:40 remaining Borchers scored again. Jorge Arredondo ran in the extra point and the Indians were up 13-8. The Tigers scored on their next possession. Borchers answered with an Indian touchdown on the team’s next possession. Jorge Arredondo recovered the onside kick setting up a Borchers touchdown with 2:59 on the clock. Stephen Austermann’s PAT brought the Indians to a 29-8 lead. Oglesby scored with :49 remaining. With :24 on the first quarter clock, Borchers ran a 62-yard touchdown return. Austermann’s PAT ended the first quarter at 37-14. Borchers wasted no time getting the ball back in Indian possession when he recovered a Tiger fumble with 9:51 on the second quarter clock. Burnam Sloan scored with 9:06 remaining. Austermann’s PAT was good and the Indians were up 45-14. The Indian and Tiger defenses kept each other from scoring until 4:03 when Borchers scored. With 2:37 remaining in the half Trey Shannon intercepted a Tiger pass and ran it back for his first touchdown of the night. Austermann’s kick was good and the Indians were up 59-14. The Tigers fought back after an Indian fumble and scored with :10 remaining to keep the game alive. The Indians led 59-22 going into the half. The third quarter found the Indians ready to battle and Borchers scored with 9:19 on the clock. Borchers closed out the game with his eighth touchdown of the night with 6:52 remaining in the quarter. The Indians won the contest 71-22. The Indians travel to Prairie Lea for their final district game. If the Indians win they will clench the district championship, a feat that has not occurred in sixteen years. Come out and show your Indian spirit as the Indians take on their final district opponent and seek a playoff berth. The annual Fall Festival was held Saturday. Children and adults alike dressed up and took part in the costume contest. FFA members held a silent auction with beautiful crafts they made. Fun was had by all.
