October is gone with the goblins by the time you read this. The first frost of the year was Sunday and again Monday. It was not a really hard frost but enough to get some tender plants if you had some still out. Most people heeded the warning and brought in their plants.A good friend Velma Poe reported that she has a new great grandson born October 27, at 1:19 p.m. he weighed in at eight pounds and four ounces. His name is Luke Michael Poe. His parents are John and Christian Poe and big sister Haley. Baby Luke and mother are just fine. Congratulations Velma!Lesa Preece reported on her recent trip to Oregon and Washington. She visited Billie Jean Scott and her daughter Mandi who picked her up at the airport on Tuesday, October 16. They went to Carson, Washington to a hot spring spa. They soaked in the hot mineral waters and had a body wrap! They then returned to Portland and dined at a Greek Restaurant and visited the Voo Doo Donut shop and pigged out there. On Wednesday they toured the Willamette Valley and visited a few of the many wineries there. They visited several apple farms and pumpkin farms. On Thursday Billie Jean and Lesa spent two nights in Newport, Oregon and spent a lot of time walking on the beach and enjoyed clam chowder. From there they went to Oceanside, Oregon and spent a couple of days there touring the lighthouses and walking on the beach. Spent some time shopping in the many antique stores located there. While she was off having the time of her life her son Clay Bradley and mother Malissa Lemons tended to her chicken farm and Edna Machen dog sat. Charlene Brister reported on the elk hunt they went on earlier this month. It was quite a group that went on the hunt. Dr. Marilyn Brister, Carl and Blain Adams, Shari and Steve Raesz, Bryan Benningfield, Phillip and Bobbie Morris and of course Jackie and Charlene Brister all had a great time in the New Mexico Lincoln National Forrest hunting elk. Jackie and Blain were the only ones who hunted, and the rest of the group being the cooks and butchers. Jackie and Blain were both successful harvesting elk. Jackie got one on opening morning and Blain the second evening. Needless to say Blain is ready to go back again next year.Cathy Gibson reported that she and Handy are expecting a third grand baby in March and are excited. She also reported that the Spotted Donkey in Lometa will be open again starting next week. She has been closed concentrating on an estate sale that she has been working on. She is also planning to have two booths at the upcoming antique show that will be in the Civic Center, November 3 & 4 with antiques and gifts. She reported that Handy and William Kelley is hunting in West Texas and having a great time. If anyone out there has a Chihuahua puppy that they would like to get rid of to give her a call as the one she had died.Happy birthday goes out to Ryan Brister who will be celebrating a birthday November 1.Congratulation goes out to George and Toni Mayben and Lester and Lilly LeMaster who will be celebrating an anniversary November 1, which is also All Saints Day.
