Ruby Sloan

Ruby Sloan, 99, of San Saba, passed away on Monday, October 22, 2012. Services were held on Thursday, October 25, 2012, at 10:00a.m. at the New Hope Presbyterian Church in the Sloan community of San Saba County. Dr. John Davenport officiated for the service.Ruby Sloan was October 7, 1913, to Claude T. Wood and Mary Belle Wigginton Wood in Brady, Texas. She married Jack H. Sloan on June 30, 1934. They had three children, Josephine Sloan, Pete Sloan, and Sam W. Sloan. They lived in McCulloch County for several years. Then they moved to San Saba around 1938 where she lived the rest of her life.Ruby was very active in the New Hope Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder. She was a member of the Women of the Church group. But most of Ruby's time was spent at home. Cooking and tending to her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was a full time job. She was noted for the best hot rolls around.Ruby was survived by her daughter: Josephine Sloan; sons: Pete Sloan and wife, Lana, and Sam W. Sloan and wife, Ginger; grandchildren: Ted Ward, Wesley Ward, Lisa Foil, Cindy Sloan, Marcus Sloan, Bret Sloan, and Stephanie Faught; 13 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Preceding Ruby in death were her parents and her husband.Dr. John Davenport officiated the service. Pallbearers were her great-grandsons: Ben Rollins, Andrew Rollins, Michael Ward, Neil Ward, Ryan Ward, Levon Ward, Will Ward, Dustin Sloan, and Ridge Smith. Honorary pallbearers are her grandsons: Ted Ward, Wesley Ward, Marcus Sloan, and Bret Sloan.Interment was at the Sloan Cemetery.Donations may be made to the New Hope Presbyterian Church, Sloan Cemetery, or the San Saba EMS.Services were under the direction of Heritage Funeral Home, San Saba.
