This week’s column is dedicated to the hardworking director, booster club, volunteers and of course talented musicians that make up the amazing Golden Armadillo Band. This history making group marched on to the Brady field Saturday ready to take charge and show the judges just what this powerful 1A band can do. The mighty Golden Armadillo Band took command of any fears or nervousness they had and came away victorious from the UIL Region 7 Marching Band Contest with perfect scores – a Division 1 rating from each of the three judges. Fifteen 1A schools competed and only 4 schools received Division 1 ratings from each of the three judges. The band members are to be congratulated because they worked long hours before school started to begin perfecting their show. They attended multiple festivals to gain valuable critiques about how to improve their show and held a special clinic last week to take in some final work on how to make their show the very best it could have been. All their hard work has paid off and we are very proud of what they have achieved. Along with Director, Brian Sours, he had a volunteer crew of parents who supported the band through fund raising, taking pictures, films, driving the equipment truck and pulling the trailer, and serving as sponsors on buses for each and every trip. San Saba ISD is fortunate to have a strong music program. Although we have lost personnel in this area, we have still managed to maintain a quality music program in grades PK – 12 due to the dedication of the employees leading the program and the support of parents and volunteers. Please take the time to recognize our kiddos and our band director, Brian Sours, for their hard work and for reaching that much coveted perfect Division I Rating! Well deserved for a special group of students! It is difficult to learn to play an instrument with such precision, not to mention, march and play that instrument to the quality that our band has exhibited. Great Job!Parents, let us know how we can help you the first day of school all the way until the last day of school!!
