The Cross Country teams had their final meet prior to District this past Monday. All runners had improvements and are ready to run. The District meet will be held at Eden’s golf course on Wednesday. HS runs at noon and JH runs at 4:01. The JH Indians hosted Gustine on Thursday. J.D. Bell led the scoring run with a touchdown on the Indians’ first possession. Uriel Arredondo sailed in the PAT for an early 8-0 lead. Kellen Everett followed up with an onside kick recovery. With 4:05 remaining in the first quarter, Everett scored on a quarterback keeper. Arredondo’s kick was good. Bell recovered the onside kick to keep the ball in Indian possession. With 3:01 left in the quarter, Bell scored his second touchdown of the night. Arredondo kept his kicking percentage perfect with the PAT, and the Indians led 24-0. With 1:02 left in the quarter, Everett recovered a Tiger fumble, and less than a minute later, ran in another touchdown. Arredondo’s kick closed out the first quarter with a 32-0 lead over the Tigers. The Indians came out quickly in the second quarter with an Everett fumble recovery just seconds into the quarter. Blaize Lopez got his hands on a Tiger fumble with 4:07 remaining in the half. With 2:07 remaining, Everett connected with Ethan Martin who ran in the touchdown. Arredondo kept his PAT streak perfect, and the Indians led 40-0. With :36 remaining in the half Arredondo intercepted a Tiger pass and ran it back for a touchdown. His PAT was good. With great defensive plays by Baran Killough, Jason Karr, Kagen Hernandez, Chase Spellman, and Jordan Lilly, the Indians closed out the game at the half 48-0.The mighty Powderpuff teams took the field on Friday night and gave the crowd something to shout about! Laci Moreno led the white team with five touchdowns. The blue team played hard, but fell short as the white team won the game 36-19. The 3rd/4th grade Indians traveled to the Peewee Playoffs in Richland Springs last Saturday to take on the Rising Star Wildcats. The Wildcats came out strong and the Indians found themselves down 27-0 at the half. The Indians fought back in the third quarter when Joshua Reyes fought through a very tough Wildcat defense to score for the Indians. The Wildcats held the Indians to a single score and ended the game with a 45-6 win. Congratulations to all Peewee players, cheerleaders and coach-es on a great season! Several Cherokee 4-Hers participated in the County Food Show on Sunday. See the 4-H report for results. Red Ribbon Week is this week. Students in grades K-8 are competing in an anti-bullying poster contest and students in high school have been preparing drug prevention skits and presentations for the younger students. The Fall Festival will be Saturday.
