Thursday, October 25, 2012 • Posted October 25, 2012

The San Saba High School Golden Armadillo Band, under the direction of Brian Sours, performed at the annual UIL Marching Assessment in Brady on October 20, 2012. The San Saba High School band received a division I from all three judges for a composite rating of a Division I (Superior) rating!! The band performed “The Fall of Troy!” The band gave their best performance for a tough judging panel that included Barry Hurt, the man that wrote our music. Barry Hurt stated that he was “flattered” by our performance of his music. Another judge, Aaron Lewis, said “this is a very fine band… strong in all aspects. Well taught, well performed!” A third Judge, Charlie Munsell, said “Very Good… Great Show!” Dr. Tucker, Dean of Music for Howard Payne University, was in attendance Saturday and is quoted as saying “San Saba was the best 1A band of the 15 at the Region 7 West Zone marching contest.” There were 15 conference 1A bands that performed on Saturday, and only 4 received a division I from all 3 judges, and San Saba was one of them. This is the first time since 2004 that the band has received straight ones at marching contest. The band should be commended for its outstanding performance and year-to-year improvement! The band will perform an encore performance at the game this Friday night, so come out and support the AWARD WINNING GOLDEN ARMADILLO BAND!
