The Cross Country teams traveled to Zephyr last week and all runners had a successful race. Congratulations to Tommy Henegar on his 1st place finish!The junior high Indians hosted Lohn on Thursday night. J.D. Bell led the night off with consecutive touchdowns in the beginning of the first quarter. Uriel Arredondo intercepted the Eagle’s attempt to score an extra point after their first touchdown of the night. Ethan Martin returned the Eagles’ kick-off return to the end zone. Arredondo’s PAT put the Indians up 20-6. With 3:13 remaining in the half, Kellen Everett recovered an Eagle fumble. Seconds later Jordan Lilly scored for the team. Arredondo’s PAT was good. With :31 on the clock, Bell scored. Arredondo sailed in the PAT. The Indians led 36-6 going into the half. Everett scored his first touchdown of the night with 1:16 remaining in the third quarter. Arredondo’s PAT was good, putting the Indians up 44-6. The Eagles scored, cutting the Indians’ lead to 44-12. With :36 left in the quarter, Everett ran in a touchdown and extended the Indian lead to 50-12. The Eagles scored early in the fourth quarter. With 5:39 remaining, Baran Killough recovered an Eagle fumble, setting up an Everett touchdown. The Indians ran the clock down, kneeled it, and ended the game with a 56-18 win.Friday night found the Indians on the new and improved Lohn football field. Stephen Austermann led off the scoring with 7:48 remaining in the first quarter. The Indians have proven to be quick on onside kicks as Burnam Sloan recovered the ball. The following snap led to Robert Brewer’s touchdown run. Auster-mann’s kick put the Indians up 14-0. Two minutes later the Eagles scored, but with 6:27 on the clock, Brewer once again found the end zone. Auster-mann’s PAT put the Indians up 22-8. Jorge Arredondo recovered an Eagle fumble with 6:21 remaining. Sloan ran in a 19-yard touchdown run with 4:56 left in the quarter, and Austermann’s successful PAT put the Indians ahead 30-8. On the Eagles’ following series Logan Lopez read the play and intercepted a pass, putting in back in Indian possession. Austermann got his first interception of the game with 2:20 remaining, and he returned it 80 yards for a touchdown. His PAT put the Indians up 38-8. With :32 remaining in the quarter, Auster-mann recovered an Eagle fumble. Austermann led off the second quarter scoring with a 27-yard TD run with 9:24 remaining. The defense held strong and on the team’s next possession Sloan ran in a touchdown to bring the Indians’ lead to 50-8. Israel Trinidad recovered the onside kick, leading to a Brewer TD and Auster-mann PAT with 7:50 left in the half. Lohn fought back with a TD and PAT on their possession, but the Indians showed their determination to win when Auster-mann scored with 4:52 on the clock, bringing the score to 64-16. With 3:55 remaining, the Indians gave the crowd a show when Austermann intercepted a pass and pitched it to Lopez, who ran it into the end zone. Austermann’s PAT was good, putting the Indians up 72-16. With 3:19 remaining, Trey Shannon picked off an Eagle pass, setting up his own touchdown just plays later. Austermann’s PAT was good. With 1:46 remaining, Lopez intercepted the ball. The Indians kneeled the ball, showing their class, and the game ended with an 80-16 victory. For you historians, I’ve been told that’s quite possibly the Indians’ highest scoring first half ever! I’d love to get verification on that.I incorrectly stated that this week is an OPEN week for both Indian teams. The junior high will play on Thursday, but the HS Indians will have an open week, as they look toward their district opener on the 26th against Oglesby.The FFA is selling delicious fruit, meats and desserts, so see a member to get great food and support an even greater organization! Be sure to go look at their beautiful picnic table they built in memory of Payten. What a great job, FFA!PTC will be holding its Annual Fall Festival on the 27th. The meal begins at 5:00 in the cafeteria. The Jack-O-Lantern contest, Cupcake Wars and costume contest also begins at 5:00. Games will be 5:30-7:30. All activities will be held on the blacktop outside the cafeteria. New this year will be a magic show!
