San Saba Cross Country News

Since the last report the Armadillo Cross Country team has been doing some traveling. The teams closed out the month of September in Fredericksburg. Every member of the High School and Jr. High team continued to improve their times and racing strategy. Special thanks and possibly a medal should go out to Mr. Jiminez, Mrs. Ingram and Mr. and Mrs. Gamboa for their remarkable sprint up the half mile hill to leave Lady Bird Johnson Park in order to take A.J., Katy, Jantzen and Andrea to Fredericksburg High School to compete in a band competition. On October 5th, the High School teams traveled to Round Rock, the site of this years Cross Country State Championships, and had the unique pleasure of lining up against nearly four hundred of the Sates top runners. Our Varsity Girl’s finished 16th out of 45 teams. Once again, the number one 1A team in the competition. The Varsity boy’s placed 34th out of 45.We stayed a little closer to home on October 10th, competing in the Zephyr Dog Run held at the Blanket Golf Course. To say the least the San Saba Cross Country Teams had a dominating performance. The Varsity girl’s placed 2nd out of 14 teams, nearly missing the meet championship by one point to 2A Bangs. Leading the way for the Lady Dillo’s was Liberty Lasley at 3rd, Shea Scott at 7th, Alexa Maxcey at 10th. A.J. Gamboa, Katy Ingram and Yicelle Cueves ran well contributing to the team effort. In the Jr. Varsity division Alexus Saldivar placed 1st, Andrea Jimenez took 3rd, and Meagan Rackley rounded out the Jr. Varsity division with 25th. The Varsity boy’s placed 1st overall, once again led by Hector Paez’s dominating 1st place finish followed by Vicente Vega, Daniel Garcia, Ridge Smith and Jantzen Bell finishing 7th, 8th, 11th and 18th respectively.The Jr. High Team, Daniel Rosales and his girl’s, made a great showing. Daniel is our lone boy competitor, but never fails to represent San Saba with determination and pride, placing 6th. The 8th grade girl’s placed third and were led by Abigail Ingram at 7th, Kimeri Moore at 9th and Baylee Williams at 20th. Baleigh Sante-femia, Juana Macias, Savera Vasquez, Raylee Pannell, Katelyn Balckshear and Hannah Hilbler ran great races and all these young lady’s set personal records. In the 7th grade girl’s race competing for San Saba was Ananlyn Bohensky placing 49th and Dynasty Saldivar at 76th. By the time this article is printed the Cross Country Teams will have run in their final warm-up meet before District in Goldthwaite. The District meet is on Oct. 24th in Hico. Come support the kids if you get the chance—SPECIAL REWARDS COME TO THOSE WHO GIVE SPECIAL EFFORTS.
