Ladies Golf Notes

October 2, 3, and 4, 2012 Jo Anne Hardy, Hattie Rogers, Jo Ann Snow, Sandee Hartley, and Anita Miles attended the Senior Women’s Amateur Golf Association of Texas fall tournament at Olympia Hills Golf Course at Universal City, Texas. Sandee Hartley won most improved in the third flight, our only win. We had high hopes that Jo Ann Snow was going to win the Barbara Nesbit Award for most improved in the Senior Ladies Flight, but was beat out by a few strokes. Hattie Rogers was in contention the first day and chipped in on one hole, but fell short the second day. But the most important thing is that the ladies had a wonderful time renewing old friendships and playing lots of golf. The first day is a practice round and then two days of competition. This course was difficult with lots of rolling hills and greens. Anita Miles is a board member, serving as Secretary and her other duty is to lead the prayer at the banquet. She has no talent but with a captive audience she entertains in one form or another. This year she gave a rendition of how a four year old views the game of golf and the Lord explains to her it is a game for joy and to renew your spirits and sense of well being. With October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, she then honored all the cancer survivors and they were presented ‘survivor’ bracelets by Hattie Rogers. All those attending were presented pink cancer memorial bracelets by the San Saba ladies upon their arrival. The food was fantastic and the weather perfect, so it was a fun time for all! October 11, 2012 five ladies, Jo Anne Hardy, Hattie Rogers, Dorothy Sterner, Jo Ann Snow, and Peggy Jones met for play day with a game of Low Gross and Low Net. First Low Gross went to Hattie, who also chipped in to win the Chip in Pot, and First Low Net went to Dorothy, who also won the Low Putt Pot. We are all excited about our new pro, that will be arriving soon. As soon as I meet him, I will give you a first hand report. He was recommended by Keith Harris, as they were golf team mates in college, and that’s good enough for me. So it’s a good time for YOU to begin learning golf with a new pro and finding out how much fun it is to be ‘swinging!’
