Llano River Chuck Wagon Cook-Off & Heritage Days Festival

The 8th annual Llano River Chuck Wagon Cook-off will take place on the banks of the beautiful Llano River in Badu Park, Friday, October 19, 2012, through Sunday, October 21, 2012. Those wanting to explore the wonders of an historic downtown and 1800’s county courthouse square are welcome on the town square for all the festivities of the Llano Heritage Days Festival. The event has been expanded to both sides of the river and offers something for everyone to enjoy during the three days.On Friday, October 19th the wagons set up and wagon judging commences at 3:00 p.m. The cook-off begins in earnest on Saturday with the wagon crews preparing delicious chuck wagon food for the enjoyment of the public. Entertainment MC will be Tracy Pitcox and is slated to start at 9:00 a.m. with the Llano Country Opry band headlining the entertainment. Food will be turned in at 11:45 a.m. for judging, and served to ticket holders promptly at high noon. Meal tickets are available for the Saturday, October 20th, noon meal for $15 each. They are available at the Llano Visitor Center at 325-247-5354, and you may choose to charge by phone and pick them up at the park.Across the bridge, experience historic Llano with living history and quilt displays in and around the courthouse, entertainment with cowboy poet, Dennis Gaines, and live music, great vendors, and activities all afternoon. Bring your pumpkins to compete in the pumpkin carving contest at 6 p.m., and parade around the square with the “Great Pumpkin” in the lead.But wait! There’s more! A ranch rodeo in true Texas style tradition will be held at the new Llano Events Center’s covered rodeo arena Saturday evening at 6 p.m. featuring competitions such as trailer loading, sorting, branding and wild cow milking.Make your plans today to enjoy the beauty of the Texas Hill Country and bring the family for an adventure-filled day at the Heritage Festival, Chuck Wagon Cook-off, and Ranch Rodeo!
