The Richland Springs Report

Lots of crashing and noise around us last night, but not a drop of rain was felt. The Brady area had about four inches, and it looked as if Llano was getting a good rain. I sat out on the front porch with my son-in-law Mark in the cool of the evening, but once again we have been bypassed by the contrary winds and rains. We woke up this morning to fog in the bottom. The sun slowly melted the mist away and to our surprise there were hundreds of hawks circling above and near the house. Several other church goers reported large flocks of circling hawks in their areas. It was quite the sight to see! The best thing for me was when Mike Phelan told me they were eating grasshoppers. Now that makes my day! I still have way too many grasshoppers eating my plants. I noticed at least a dozen of the hawks on the ground near the trees. I hope they cleared the area of those pests. We had an exciting game Friday night. The Gordon team gave us a run for our money. We actually had to play well into the second half. They were a much larger team, especially in numbers, but good coaching and brave hearts prevailed. Maybe the Cowboys should borrow our coach for a few games? We had a super turnout for the fifth quarter meal. We managed to consume large quantities of chili and cornbread, but we barely made a dint in our dessert area. Mind you, we wanted to make sure we didn’t run low after last week’s meal. We had plenty of food, but the 40 guests turned about to be about 100 or more. So, this Friday we had plenty of sweet stuff to go with our meal. We have two more home games. These fifth quarters are great fun. It’s a great time for players and fans alike, to sit and enjoy another good victory. We have many activities coming up in the next few weeks. This Saturday Donald and Ginger Skelton are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. The community is invited to a come and go celebration in the Tabernacle from 3:00 until 5:00p.m. This is a meet and greet and no gifts are requested. The Till family will hold their family reunion at the Tabernacle as well. The McKinnerneys are having a celebration in the Community Hall on Saturday. Donna and George Hill had the Lane family reunion at their place this last weekend. That in itself is amazing, since George was in the hospital most of the week with a gallbladder-like attack. The Hardmans had their 60th wedding anniversary last week. There will be a Trunk or Treat celebration on Saturday the 27th. This event was a great success last year, so it is being repeated. Anyone can bring their vehicle, decorated or not to the park area and open it up for our local trick or treaters. Pee-wee Playoffs are next Saturday. All of our Richland Springs teams are ranked number one.We extend our sympathies to Marilyn Suber in the passing of her mother. I know Mrs. Irene Cummings has been struggling for some time. God is calling one of his sweeties home. Wanda Gibson is doing better and we are very thankful for that. Please continue to pray for Paul Gibson. We need to add Sonny Capps to the prayer list. He has been transferred to a rehab center after his recent stroke. Gary Draper is recovering from his kidney stone issues. This decade’s increasing cancer list continues to hit our community. Please add Stacy and Matt, two extended family members of our community. Matt is 22 and has reached the end of his cancer options. He needs the hand of God to heal him. Hattie Smith has been diagnosed with aggressive brain cancer. Young Levi Shannon is being treated for compressed discs in his back. When you see the long list of prayer needs and the trials facing families it brings life’s major issues into focus and the minor blips fall out of sight. Brother Barry spoke on that issue Sunday morning. I had a great chat with my Germany family this morning. They are back from their cruise and everyone is healthy, happy and a little bit wiser in the geography area. Please pray for our upcoming elections, our country and our precious troops and their families. Have a great week.
