Minnie Irene Mitchel Cummings

Minnie Irene Mitchel Cummings passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, October 12, 2012 at the age of 89. Funeral service for Irene was held at 10:00a.m. on Tuesday, October 16, at Heritage Funeral Home in San Saba with Dean Snoddy officiating. Visitation with family was held on Monday, October 15, from 6-8p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial followed at Cox Cemetery in Milburn, McCulloch County.Irene was the youngest of seven children born to Eallie Van and Minnie (Hardman) Mitchel. Irene and her siblings were all musically inclined. Each of them could play at least one instrument and they all were talented singers. Irene married Jesse Phillip Cummings in 1941 and they celebrated over 60 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2001.Irene is survived by her five children: Gerald and Glenda Cummings of Alamogordo, New Mexico, Charles Ray and Kitty Cummings of Locker, Marilyn and Michael Suber of Richland Springs, Billy and Sherry Cummings of Brownwood, and Lanell and Kendall Parson of Bangs. Irene was very proud of her 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Andy Cummings of Milburn. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her four brothers: Eallie, Namon, Denver, and Arthur, and her two sisters; Verue and Addie.She was a resident of the Elm Grove community for over 50 years and had resided in Richland Springs for the last 5 years. She was a member of the Holt Baptist Church for over seventy years, until it ceased to exist in 2010. She then became a member of the Rochelle Baptist Church and attended there until health no longer permitted. Irene was an active member of the Elm Grove community, volunteering her time for the rodeo, annual picnic, and many other community events. She was the Elm Grove correspondent for the local newspaper since 1964. She enjoyed staying busy and spent endless hours doing various kinds of handwork. Irene was an avid baseball fan and loved attending the games of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She never missed watching the Texas Rangers.Pallbearers were: Cody Cummings, Zane Cummings, Wiley Cummings, Monty Cummings, Theron Parson, and Kelton Parson.Donations may be made to the Cox Cemetery or Lighthouse Hospice in Brownwood.
