San Saba City Council hires Golf Pro

The San Saba City Council held a Public Hearing prior to the Regular Session on Tuesday, October 9th at 6 p.m. Mayor Ken Jordan called the Hearing to order and announced a quorum present with Aldermen Charles Peeler and Martha Leigh Whitten absent. Alderman Mark Amthor gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.The Public Hearing was for the purpose of receiving public comments on the closure of a 5' portion of an alleyway located in the Lindley Addition to the City of San Saba. There was no one in attendance for comments and the Public Hearing was adjourned.First on the agenda of the Regular Session was the presentation of the Employee of the Month award for October. Two employees of the Electric Department earned this award. Mike Argote and G. T. Meador will receive a day off with pay, a gift certificate to a local restaurant, and their name added to the plaque. Both employees were at a training session and not in attendance at the Council meeting.The following Consent Agenda items were approved:A. Minutes from the September 11th Council meeting.B. Payment of bills presented to City Council.C. The 2013 Holiday Schedule for the City of San Saba.D. Resolution No. 2012-28 to waive noise ordinance for October 29th for the Pecan Jam Festival in Risien Park.E. Resolution No. 2012-30 waiving noise ordinance for October 27th at the Gazebo in Mill Pond Park.F. Resolution No. 2012-32 authorizing the filing with Texas Comptroller a letter stating that the city is authorized to exercise the power of eminent domain.After discussion, the following item was approved:a. Resolution No. 2012-29 authorizing the submission of a Texas Community Development Block Grant Program application to the Texas Deparment of Agriculture. b. Christian Merritt, Public Finance, Government Capital from Austin, gave informa tion regarding the consolidation of the city's outstanding separate loans. Afb. After the presentation, the Council approved refinancing these loans into a one 5 year term loan at 2.9% with Government Capital. c. Ordinance No. 2012 was discussed regarding the alleyway that was the topic of the Public Hearing. It was approved to close 5' of a 10' abandoned alleyway in the Lindley Subdivision to the City of San Saba and authorizes the purchase of said property by Robert Millican, Mike Millican, and Margaret (Kay) Millican Thompson who will be responsible for all associated costs. Stan Weik, City Manager, gave the following report: 1. The City has hired Charles (Chuck) Jennings, PGA golf pro, to be manager of the San Saba River Golf Course. 2. The Streets Committee and Parks committee are making progress in their plans.3. Keep San Saba Beautiful and City of San Saba will host a City Wide cleanup party on October 27th. 4. Several organizations are helping with improvements at the Senior Center. 5. The property extension project at the airport is moving forward. 6. Visitors to the area are seeing the changes being done to beautify the city. Tony Guidroz, Tourism/Economic Development, reported on the Pecan Capital Street Dance VII starring Curtis Potter October 6th, and the upcoming San Saba River Pecan Jam Festivival Saturday, October 20th.Mayor Jordan adjourned the meeting at 6:35 p.m.
