San Saba ISD School Board holds regular meeting

The Board of Trustees of San Saba ISD held a Regular Meeting on Monday, October 8th, starting at 6:21 p.m. Prior to the meeting the Board sampled the menu plans prepared by Cafeteria Manager, Diane Wood. There have been mandated changes relating to calories and no fried foods. The Board commended Ms. Wood for the work she's doing.President, Kim Kirk called the meeting to order, established a quorum with Trustee Kevin Shahan absent, followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags. Assistant Superintendent, Michael Bohensky gave the invocation. Kelly Cash, 3rd and 4th grade Social Studies teacher, gave a report on the Challenge Lab implemented this year. The lab is on Monday and Tuesday each week and is growing because it is a motivational class that goes beyond basics.Superintendent, Leigh Ann Glaze recognized four high school students that were chosen to make a problem solving presentation at the recent TASA/TASB School Board Convention in Austin on September 27-30. The students were: Karlee Cromer, Kristen Reynolds, Johanna Crosby and McKenzie Hibler.Superintendent Glaze gave the following information:A. The next School Board meeting will be Monday, November 12th at 6 p.m.B. The annual audit will be completed in November, before Thanksgiving.C. Texas Governor, Rick Perry has proclaimed October as School Principal Month for the State of Texas. The following Consent Agenda was approved:a. The regular and executive meeting minutes of September 10th.b. Amended 2012-2013 budget.c. To pay bills.d. The financial report.3. Accepted a $500 donation from Hoffpauer for the High School Student Program, Site Base.Assistant Superintendent, Michael Bohensky reported on the following:1. CSCOPE - six week progress reports being prepared for Elementary and Middle School students. High School will be a nine week progress report.2. TAKS - retesting will be October 22nd.3. STAAR - testing is on hold until State information is received.Superintendent Glaze reported that the paperwork for School Improvement is in progress. The Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, High School Principal and Elementary Principal will attend the Conference on October 16-17-18 on this topic. The Principals have a new report system that includes scores, enrollment, percentage attendance and absent days of students. The Truancy Officer, Ray Riggs is in the process of filing truency papers on unexcused absences. The total enrollment for SSISD at the present time is 736. Middle School Principal, Vicki Key reported that I Pads will be distributed this week, coded to lesson plans. High School Principal, Brian Williams, reported things going well and working on “late to school” situations.Jeff Pannell, Athletic Director, reported on the Cross Country Track and the State Track meet; the football program has 28 MSplayers, 27 JV players and 24 V players on their teams; girls basketball will be starting next week; girls basketball will include a mix of 7th & 8th grade players.New Business included the following: A. Approved the 288 pages - 2 year mandatory plan for the District and Campus Improvement Plans. B. Approved the Textbook Committees. C. First reading affecting local policies: (AB) District Name; (DFBB) Term Contracts - Nonrenewal; (DFE) Termination of Employment/Resignation; (DGBA) Personnel-Management Relations - Employee Complaints/Grievances; (EIE) Academic Achieve-ment, Retention and Promotion; (FNG) Student Rights and Responsibilities - Student and Parent Complaints/Grievances; (GF) Public Complaints.D. Board members reviewed the Special Programs Financial Manual.E. Approved the Food Service Plan.F. Approved Joint Client Agreement and Fee Agreement (up to $600.00) between San Saba ISD and James C. Thompson, PLLC authorizing Mr. Thompson to bring suit before the Texas Education Agency, the State Office of Administrative Hearings and/or District Court challenging the AYP system and/or the AYP ratings assigned to the district. There are 120 School Districts filing this suit.President Kirk adjourned the meeting and announced a short break before entering into Executive Session.
