The library hosted another successful Book Fair last week. Valerie Gossett expresses thanks to all who supported the library in this annual fundraiser. 4H sponsors Valerie Gossett & Paula Miller, and the Richland Springs 4H Club are collecting canned food for the San Saba Food Pantry. The food collection ends Friday, October 12th.Note to parents: The first six week grading period ended October 5. Please look for your child’s report card this week. Review the report card with your child and let your student know that you are concerned and supportive of their education. Compliment them on their good work and encourage them to do their best. Contact your child’s teacher with any concerns. Parent involvement is very, very important to student success!Never underestimate the value of an education. Statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau confirm the economic benefits to individuals of formal education:•High school dropouts were earning in 2007 an average of $21,484 annually.•High school graduates earned an average of $31,286.•Those with bachelor’s degrees earned an average of $57,181.•Individuals with master’s degrees had an average income of $70,186.•Those with professional degrees earned $120,978.We must make the investment now for our children, who will, in turn, ensure our future.It was a great week for Coyote football. The junior high team played Jonesboro junior high and came away with a 29-22 victory. The varsity Coyotes outscored Walnut Springs 67-18 last week. It was a cool, picture-perfect autumn night, and was a great culmination to a travel week to Walnut Springs. The cheerleaders performed well and kept spirit high all week.The junior high team hits the road this week as they travel to Gordon for a 5:30 p.m. game this Thursday. We hope to see lots of Richland Springs alumni at the Friday night game as the varsity Coyotes host the Gordon Longhorns at home on Friday, October 12th at 7:30 p.m. Friday night will be cool, with a low in the mid 50’s. Dress warm and wear your BLUE and make some noise! This will be the last tune-up game prior to district competition on Oct. 26th.The 2011-2012 Yearbooks have arrived. They are $25. If you want to purchase a yearbook, send a check to yearbook advisor Krystal Butler, or come by school to purchase one. The yearbook is a keepsake for life, full of school pictures and memories.We have a great community, students, teachers and staff.
