Saturday was cool to say the least, and it felt like time to get out the longjohns. According to all the weather reports we can expect some warm weather, which will be great.Monday is Columbus day and all the news from around the Bend must have sailed away with him, either that or the cold front blew it all away as the news is as scarce as hen’s teeth.The Fish Fry, cake auction, and silent auction went off as scheduled with a large crowd attending even with all the other activities that was going onat the same time in Richland Springs and Goldthwaite and San Saba. The wind had a frosty bite to it, but inside it was nice and warm. The cold didn’t keep the children from enjoying the games that Dixie Hewitt and her daughter Tye, Sylvia Stinnett and her daughter Autumn had set up outside. There was plenty of food, desserts and lots of visiting went on. People came from San Saba, Lometa, Lampasas, San Antonio, Cherokee and Lone Star and Bend. Howard Rockafellow auctioned off the cakes and kept the crowd entertained. It goes without saying that everyone enjoyed the fish prepared by Jackie Brister and his crew and the desserts prepared by ladies in the community. A big thanks goes to OraBeth Hicks and Lewvon Hicks who decorated the tables, which were beautiful.Robbie and Amy Eckhoff of Hawley was in over the weekend visiting parents Leon and Mebbie Eckhoff and also attended the fish fry Saturday night.Shirley Meischen celebrated her birthday Saturday with daughters Sheila and Ralene and granddaughter Jessica. Her daughters treated her to a pedicure in Lampasas and then on to Killeen for lunch at the Olive Garden and a movie, then back home in time for the fish fry at the community center, where they met up with Jerome, Craig Barefoot, Steve Gideon and Blake Gideon, and grand-son-law Tony. The entire day was very enjoyable and granddaughter Quincee was the only one not there.Sylvia Stinnett and daughter Autumn left early Sunday and spent the day in Midlothian visiting Garrison, Brooke Stinnett and the grand children Suzi, Gunner and Charlotte. They attended church and had lunch and visited until time for them to go home.Happy birthday wishes go out to Cody Herd who will celebrate a birthday October 13, to Dennis Scroggins who will celebrate a birthday Tuesday, October 16, and to Abigail Leigh January who will celebrate her birthday October 18.
