Pierian Study Club Holds First Meeting of New Year

On September 13, 2012, the Pierian Study Club met at the San Saba Garden Club Building. Co-hostesses for the first meeting of the new club year were members Nicole Bagley and Hilary Adams and members of the yearbook committee, Ann McElroy, Martine Miller and Sharon Clawson, committee chair. Other members present were Ann Allison, Donna Baker, Paula Barrier, Loy Nell Behrens, Gail Bruner, Barbara Gilger, Kathleen Hawkins, Jeri Jones, Sandy Kuykendall, Cherry Kay Lange, Lynn McHenry, Joycelyn McRorey, Anita Miles, Kay Nettleship, Jane Randolph, Clione Rochat, Sandy Smith, Vickie Stephenson, Geanne Taylor, Patricia Warren, Rebecca Whitley, Martha Leigh Whitten, Louise Williams, Anna Wilson, Bebe Bagley, Millie Burnham, Betty Joe Miller, Martha Roe Terry, and Lisa Theodosis.The Garden Club facility lent itself well to the eclectic autumn decor and table settings. The luncheon consisted of Broccoli and Cheese Quiche, Mixed Green Salad and Citrus Fruit Salad. Dessert included Oatmeal Pecan Tassies, Orange Mini-Muffins, and Lime Sherbet with a cookie garnish. Refreshing iced tea and water were also served. President Anita Miles called the meeting to order and thanked Mrs. Clawson and her yearbook committee for planning and hosting the delightful luncheon. Mrs. McElroy then led members in the Club Collect. Following the collect, President Miles delivered the president’s annual address. Her address was a heartfelt and heartwarming tribute, as she recalled her past friendships and relationships, to each and every Pierian member. As she addressed each member, she recalled memories and anecdotes that she shared with that sister member. It was truly a lovely tribute and as Ms. Miles termed it, “…a love story” of her history as both a Pierian member and friend to all.The president then called upon the secretary, Sandy Smith, for roll call and reading of the minutes. The minutes for the meeting in April and a summative report of the May social guest evening were approved as read.Mrs. Clawson, the yearbook committee chair, announced that the new year’s course of study would center on book reviews and presentations of local and state history. Loy Nell Behrens, projects committee chair, summarized the projects that this year’s membership would pursue including the club’s scholarship program, Christmas Angel Tree, Dove Project and the San Saba River Pecan Jam. Treasurer, Louise Williams, gave the monthly financial report. Past membership chair, Patricia Warren, presented an update on the status of the club’s official waiting list, as well as the placement of Sherry Ruddick on the aforementioned list. During the announcement section, the upcoming October events, including the club brunch in Fredericksburg, the Texas Pecan and Wine Dinner, and the San Saba Pecan Jam, were discussed. In closing, President Miles thanked and commended Mrs. Clawson and her yearbook committee for their outstanding job in planning and coordinating the new year’s monthly programs. The next meeting of the Pierian Study Club will be a brunch held in Fredericksburg beginning at 10:30 a.m. on October 11th in the home of Jean Renfro, sister of member and co-hostess, Jane Randolph.
