Ladies Golf Notes

The San Saba Ladies Golf Association met July 31, 2008 for play day with the Chair for June, Anita Miles, calling for a game using the traveling four ball point system, one point for boggie, two points for par, and three points for a birdie, plus your handicap. Four ladies made the maximum of 40 points, Sandee Hartley, Dorothy Sterner, Bobbie Churchill, and Jo Ann Snow. Hattie Rogers, Becky Hardin, and Anita Miles finished out the roster.

Sandee Hartley had a great day shooting the Low Gross and the Low Net for the day and chipping in! She had to split the pot with Jo Ann Snow, who also chipped in.

We had a slight accident as Becky Hardin was in a sand trap and dropped the rake on her ankle which broke the skin and was very painful. Becky withdrew from the game to play another day.

Jo Anne Hardy joined the ladies for lunch. Jo Anne has been missing on the links as she has been all over Texas following her granddaughter, Shelby Hardy, in highly rated tournaments.

We are proud of Shelby as she always places high in these intense competitions. Shelby will be a senior in San Saba High this year and will be making San Saba proud both in golf and basketball!

Next week the ladies will begin their annual quest for the “Little-Low Cup.” This competition is for five weeks and is played in the Solheim tradition.

Last year’s winner was Anita Miles. The tourney was named in memory of Opelia Little and Betty Sue Low, two faithful golf members, who simply loved the game of golf!

The business meeting will be August 7, 2008 at 9:00 am. You may enter your team for the Summer Pecan Classic Four Lady Tournament by emailing Anita Miles at anitass@centex.net or by calling 325-372-3581.

The tournament is scheduled for August 23, 2008. This tournament is sponsored by the Mills County State Bank of Goldthwaite, Texas!

We are still anticipating some of our newer golfers to start playing with the ladies on Thursdays, such as Micki Bishop, Debbie Shahan, Eileen Roberts, Becky Whitley, Janet Hoyt, and perhaps there are others and we are hoping to have an old member back, Judy Campbell!

We play all sorts of golfing games and we have all skill levels and we always do lunch! How good is that! It doesn’t get any better than fun in the sun and “swinging!”
