Thursday, October 4, 2012 • Posted October 4, 2012

The San Saba High School Golden Armadillo Band, under the direction of Brian Sours, performed at both the Hill Country Marching Festival in Fredericks-burg and the Hornet Marching Festival at East Central High School in San Antonio. The band is assessed using a standardized rubric that outlines musicianship, marching, tone quality, and various other aspects of marching band. There are three judges, and each judge gives the band a rating and then the ratings are put together to form an overall composite rating. The rating system for UIL Marching Contest is as follows: 1 (superior) 2 (excellent) 3 (average) 4 (below average) 5 (poor)

The San Saba High School band received a composite rating of a division 1 Superior rating (1-1-2) at the Hill Country Marching Festival. The band also earned 3rd place and best percussion for division 1A at this festival. The band then traveled to the Hornet Festival at East Central High School in San Antonio and received a composite rating of a division 2 Excellent Rating and first place for division 1A. The band performed "The Fall of Troy" at both contest and the crowd loved it! The kids gave two fantastic performances on a very rainy day. The band has another practice contest at the Heart of Texas Marching Festival in Early on October 13th, and UIL Marching Contest in Brady on October 20th.

Come out this Friday for Homecoming (Oct. 5.) and support the band by buying a Steak Supper behind the Methodist Church from 5-7 p.m. Adults are $10 and Kids (12 and under) are $5. Donation are welcome. Thanks for all your support!
