Pecan Grove Baptist Church celebrates 112th Homecoming
Thursday, October 4, 2012 • Posted October 4, 2012

Sunday, September 30th, Pecan Grove Baptist Church celebrated with its members and many former members its 112th Homecoming. This little church is set in one of the most picturesque settings in our county. This church for 112 years has been able to participate in the most important decision that a person can make. For 112 years it has participated in the life changing business. Our church seems to be very dear to all its members. We also try to make every visitor feel welcome. The Pausewang Family provided the service with some spirit filled music. They are a very talented and gifted family. I know we will be hearing lots of good things in regards to their musical witness. A former Pastor, Pat Riley delivered the sermon. It is very hard to decide at Pecan Grove your favorite former pastor. The ones I have been able to know have all been excellent and they have all been brought to us for a specific reason. I can tell you he is definitely very special to Pecan Grove. His Dad, Bob Riley, was also one of Pecan Groves’ Pastors. During the pre-sermon ceremony, our Pastor, Stuart Beckwith presented Jimmie Shahan with a beautiful wooden Cross. Jimmie Shahan was honored for his continued service as a deacon and lifetime member of our church. Jimmie Shahan was born on April 18th 1928. He was taken to Pecan Grove Baptist with his Mom and Dad as soon as he was old enough to be carried in. He gave his heart to the Lord when he was 12 years old and was baptized in the San Saba River about one mile from the church at a Crossing, previously called Munsell Crossing, now Shahan Crossing. In the year 1966, Jimmie was ordained as a deacon of Pecan Grove Church along with Desmond Doyle. This ordination was done by Brother Bob Riley. Jimmie has served as a Deacon for 46 years. He has been faithful to the church, and the church has been blessed to have him as a friend, member and deacon. After the service we were able to participate in a Baptist Tradition, Dinner on the Grounds. It was wonderful to see old friends and former members. If you do not have a church home or would like to be affiliated with a Country Church come visit Pecan Grove. Our Pastor, Stuart Beckwith will be glad to greet you, and you will enjoy the sermon, and learning about the Bible. I am proud to call it my church!
