S S County Friends of Animals nominates Board of Directors
Thursday, October 4, 2012 • Posted October 4, 2012

The organizing committee for the soon-to-be-formed San Saba County humane organization met again on September 25th and is moving forward quickly. The committee approved "San Saba County Friends of Animals" (SSCFOA) as the final name of the organization. That name will replace the temporary one (Humane Animal Shelter of San Saba) we had been using. A 7-member board of directors and a slate of officers were proposed. Bylaws were submitted by Dr. Stan Burnham and were also approved by the committee. With these steps concluded, the legal documents to form the 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation can now be completed and sent to the Texas Secretary of State for filing.

The proposed officers (who will also serve as board members) are: President - Kate Beckes, Vice President - Scott Meador, Secretary - Cathi Miles, Treasurer - Chuck Little. The three proposed at-large directors are Dr. Stan Burnham, Susie Nettleship, and Sue Moody.

The priority items to be addressed in the near future will be: creating our membership and volunteer base, launching humane education and marketing efforts, establishing guidelines for fundraising, seeking grants and other funding, and determining the criteria and location for the proper shelter facility. Kate Beckes, chair of SSCFOA’s organizing committee, states "So much has happened in a relatively short time, it is exciting to see how quickly all of this is coming together. My special thanks go to all the people who are contributing time and energy to this project. It truly is a county-wide community project, one the residents of San Saba County can be proud of."

The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 23, at 6:00 P.M. Once again, the San Saba Garden Club has agreed to let us use their facility in Mill Pond Park. All SSCFOA meetings are open to the public. People interested in helping make a difference in the lives of lost, abandoned, abused, and neglected animals should plan on attending.
