September 21st and 22nd marked the 9th annual Pecan Classic golf tournament hosted by Buddy Adams. This event has grown each year and the field had 54 players from all over Texas (including 17 locals) participating. This event is a quota based event where players are trying to make points for their score on each hole; and this is the only format where a + score is good.Day one commenced at 12:00 Friday afternoon and the weather and course were excellent. Scores were good from top to bottom and there was a 3-way tie at the top of the leader board. The top 10 on the leader board:
Day 1: Day Money Winners

After the round, a steak dinner was prepared by Troy Gilger and Troy Van Cleave and as usual this is one of the highlights of the event. These guys can really cook! There were a lot of satisfied golfers waddling out to their vehicles after the meal. We made a 50% adjustment to the players' quota on Friday night and all of the golfers went their separate ways to prepare for round two.The final round started again at high noon and the scores as a whole were much better. There was a lot of movement on the score board that would see many of the players in the middle of the field after the first day, making moves into the top ten.But as the smoke cleared, it was our very own David Potts who put together an exceptional final round of two under par 70 to earn his first Pecan Classic victory, and took home one of the coveted pecan clocks to display in his office. David will now be known as the "ole One Clock Potts." Matt Slemmons held on for the Runner Up spot and new transplant "Uncle Ray" Lemeilleur takes third. The Heart of Texas Ford office battle was won again by Kade Riley, who edges out the boss John Reavis by a half of a point. It was a good victory on Saturday, with all enjoying San Saba's hospitality that evening.

As always this is one of the best run events at San Saba. There are many long hours of preparation by Buddy Adams, and mostly Pam Mann. Each year Pam coordinates with all of the players and has so many details to tend with. Great job to all of those involved and our maintenance crew here at the course for getting it in fantastic condition. Congratulations to all of the winners and thank you to all of the participants.Buddy Adams wants to express his gratitude to Keith Harris for running the tournament, the golf course personnel, cooks, and volunteers for all the hard work they did to prepare for this event. A special thanks goes out to Frank Churchill and his staff for making the beautiful pecan wood clocks given away each year. We look forward to seeing all of you in 2013 for the 10th Annual San Saba Pecan Fall Classic.
