Cherokee FFA getting an early start for spring competitions
Thursday, September 27, 2012 • Posted September 27, 2012

This summer the Cherokee FFA treasurer, Stephen Austermann, who is also on the wildlife team, attended the San Saba Soil and Water Conservation District Range and Wildlife Camp in San Angelo. At this camp, he learned how to manage range land through presentations. After learning about these management skills, they demonstrated how to perform each skill. Two days out of the week he was there, they went to different ranches to help decide how to make them better. Not only was it a learning experience, they were also taken to a natural spring for a swim and a cook out. Stephen Austermann said, "I had a great time. I learned a lot and had fun doing it. I competed on the wildlife team last year; and I felt like this camp gave me extra knowledge that will benefit me this year on the wildlife team."
