The 4-H club had their first meeting last week. Many attended and it looks like it’s going to be another great event for our students to be a part of.On Thursday, the junior high traveled to Lometa to take on the Hornets. With 4:28 left in the first quarter, quarterback Kellen Everett connected with Ethan Martin who ran it in for the team’s first touchdown of the night. Kicker, Uriel Arredondo, sailed it through the uprights for an 8-0 lead. The Hornets scored soon after and brought the score to 8-7. With 1:51 on the clock Everett ran in his first score of the night. The Indians kicked an onside and Jordan Lilly quickly recovered the ball. On the following possession, Lilly ran it into the end zone. Arredondo’s PAT was good and the Indians led 22-7. The Hornets scored before the end of the quarter, and the Indians went into the second quarter with a 22-13 lead. Everett and Martin each scored a touchdown in the second quarter. Arredondo’s PATs were both good and the Indians extended their lead to 38-13 at the half.Everett led off the Indians scoring in the second half with 5:14 left in the third. The Hornets scored and cut the Indians’ lead to 44-20. With 4:28 left, Arredon-do ran into the end zone. His double-duty PAT found the Indians with a 52-20 lead. With 2:19 left in the quarter, Blaize Lopez recovered a Hornet fumble. With 2:07 left in the game, Everett scored his final touchdown of the night.Arredondo’s PAT was good and the Indians led 60-20. Martin closed out the game with a quarterback sack with 1:08 left and the Indians ended the game with a 60-20 win.On Friday, the high school hosted the Hornets. The high school boys took notes from the junior high team and found themselves in the winning column. Robert Brewer led off the Indians with the opening kick off return for a touchdown. Burnam Sloan recovered a Hornet fumble with 5:15 remaining in the first. With 2:34 left in the quarter, Sloan scored his first touchdown of the night. Stephen Austermann kicked a successful PAT and the Indians led 14-0. The Hornets scored to lead off the second quarter, cutting the Indian lead to 14-6. The Indians found themselves in a tough spot when the Hornets scored again with 4:32 left in the half. Their PAT was good and the score was tied 14-14. On the following possession E.J. Borchers returned the kick off for his first TD of the night.Austermann’s PAT was good and the Indians led once again. With only 26 seconds left in the half Logan Lopez intercepted a Hornet pass and the Indians went into the half with a 22-14 lead. The Hornets weren’t giving up and found themselves once again tied with a touchdown scored early in the 3rd quarter. With 5:21 left in the quarter, Borchers scored and the Indians led 28-22. On the Hornets’ next possession Brewer recovered a fumble and the Indians finished the third quarter ahead 28-22. Borchers came out strong in the third, scoring two touchdowns and, with 5:15 left in the game, the Indians’ lead had extended to 40-22. With 4:59 left, Lopez got his second big interception of the night. Austermann scored with 3:40 remaining on the clock. The Hornets scored their final touchdown of the game with 2:40 remaining, cutting the Indian lead to 46-28. With 1:02 remaining, Borchers scored his fifth touchdown of the night and Austermann’s PAT closed out the game with the Indians’ winning score of 54-28. Borchers and Lopez were the lead tacklers of the game. Congratulations on a great game, Indians!On Saturday, several 4-Hers participated in the Food Fun Day in San Saba, learning valuable things in preparation for the upcoming district food competition. Also on Saturday, the cross country runners traveled to Harper for their first meet of the season.
