60 Years AgoOctober 2, 1952Mr. and Mrs. Robert Garcia announce the arrival of twins on September 23rd. These twins are among the Lucky Westinghouse Twins, as in September's issue of "Life". The Westinghouse Co. offered an automation washer and dryer and 750 cans of Gerbers Baby Food for twins born on this date.A freak of nature appears in the yard of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Stevenson where the pear trees are blooming. Apparently the long drouth has confused these trees and they have decided it was springtime after heavy rains. The San Saba Lions Club members were hosts to their ladies at a garden party and dinner at Al Mar Acres, suburban home of County Judge and Mrs. Trussell Tuesday night.Feasibility of a series of detention dams on the Brady Creek watershed for flood control will be studied at a meeting to be held in Brady October 7th. For the entire Brady Creek project 34 dam sites would be required. The SCS is reported to have data ready on 13 definite sites.

75 Years AgoSeptember 30, 1937Raymond Ellis had installed last week at his home a Hydro-Gas plant which will give light, refrigerate and of a wet cold morning cook breakfast.Census report shows that 1,536 bales of cotton were ginned in San Saba County from the crop of 1937 prior to Sept. 16, 1937, as compared with 269 bales for the crop of 1936. 100 Years AgoSeptember 26, 1912Thursday evening, September 19, a destructive wind and hail storm struck Richland Springs, covering several miles of the cotton belt surrounding that town. The hail stones were not so large but they fell in tremendous torrents.Houston Chadwick has been made deputy county clerk by W.N. Ellis.H.W. Shahan came in last week from Blanco county and will make San Saba his home. J.P. Bass, manager of the oil mills at San Saba and Lampasas, came up from Lampasas and spent the first of the week.A. J. Harkey, Geo. Rainbolt and Buck Joiner went to Menard Monday to investigate the irrigation of the valley there.Miss Mary Lewis came in Thursday of last week from Nordheim. She will teach in the Cherokee public school the coming term.
