The rain did come down starting Thursday, Friday and Sunday morning leaving over 2" of welcome and much needed rain. The Bend Community meeting went off as scheduled and the group planned the up coming fund raiser on October 6. There will be games for the children again this year so bring out the youngsters let them play carnival games and enjoy a fish supper. The meal will start around 6:30 p.m., and the games will be set up and ready to go earlier. If you have something you would like to donate to the silent auction bring it with you when you come and it will be appreciated. If you have something, you would like to donate for a door prize that would also be appreciated. Howard Rockafellow will be the auctioneer again this year.A couple of new comers Ken and Pam Britton from Lometa attended the community meeting with their friend’s Dennis and Glenda Scroggins. Pam is an artist and will have a piece of her work in the silent auction.Raymond and Lewvon Hicks attended the Bend Community Meeting last night for the planning and divided up the work for the Carnival and Fish Fry for October 6. Raymond and Lewvon would like to invite the people back who once attended our community meetings and have stopped coming for one reason or another. Please reconsider and try again. We can do a lot for our community if we do it together.Lewvon announced that the L-M Garden Club of Lometa will present two performances of “Greater Tuna,” by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears and Ed Howard at the Lometa School. The cast will be local talent. There will be a dinner theater on September 29. A steak dinner will be served from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the school gym. Cost is $25 per person. The show will be presented in the school’s auditorium at 7:00 p.m. In addition a matinee performance is scheduled for September 30, at 2:00 p.m. in the school auditorium. Tickets are $10.00 per person. Lewvon has tickets for sale, call 628-3234 and she will get them to you.Lesa Preece had another full weekend. Saturday she and Malissa Mims spent the day in Brownwood and spent some time visiting Keith Lemons at Lemons Bar-B-Q. Sunday her friend Sheri Riggs came out and spent the afternoon. They sat on the porch watching the rain and observing her chickens eating the drowning worms from all the rain. All that good fish bait is for the birds?Patsy Henniger reported that R.J. had a little bit of a problem on his way home from California last week. It seems his plane was late and to make his connection he had to run. That would have been worth the price of a ticket to have been on the sidelines watching that foot race. It just goes to show you don’t get too old to sprint when you have to.Ben Ed Henniger and Jo Lei Miller were married Saturday night at the home of her parents. It was a western style wedding with a chuck wagon for the food and Teepees for the guests to stay in. Elsa Dean Shirley of Portales, N. M. came in for the wedding, as did her son and his wife, Kenneth and Vanessa Shirley of Belton. Also attending was Emerson and Gladys Brister of Thrall. Elsa Dean, Kenneth and Vanessa spent the night at the home of William and Jane Clark who also attended the wedding.Family and friends who helped to celebrate the birthdays of Jane Clark and her grandson Andrew Houdyshell Sunday were Elsa Dean, Kenneth and Vanessa Shirley, and Bobby, Kit Clark and their grandchildren Misty, Aubrie and Autumn Rose Wallace of Round Rock. The lunch was prepared by daughters Kristi Messer and Jamie Houdyshell. Doug Messer and children along with A.J.
