During the San Saba City Council meeting on Tuesday, September 14th, the Council voted unanimously to donate the old red fire truck to the San Saba County Historical Museum. The Texas Three Wheeler Association will sponsor a Three Wheeler Rodeo this Saturday, Sept. 25th, at the San Saba Rodeo Arena on Highway 16.Winners in the Area 7 Young Farmers at the Convention held recently are: Dennis Hardman, runner-up Farm and Ranch Manager; Woody Russell, runner-up Chapter Radio and Television Award; James Stewardson, certificate from P.C.A. for Outstanding Chapter; Lynn Hamrick, Area Officer; Buck Martin, runner-up Chapter Public Relations Award; and David Behrens, Outstanding Chapter Award for Area 7.Rebecca Grusendorf, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Grusendorf of San Saba, will be featured in a classical vocal recital on Saturday, Sept. 25th at 7:00 p.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in San Saba.Notice - Harry's Dept. Store & Harry's Ladies Store will be closed Sat. Sept. 18th and Monday, Sept. 27th in observance of religious holidays.

50 Years Ago September 18, 1962

Jimmy Shook, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Shook, recently received the Eagle Scout award, the highest award for Boy Scouts in a local ceremony.Judy McKinnerney was named president of the Richland Springs High School band on Monday. Other officers include Patty Pearce, Secretary/Treasurer; Georgia Adams, Reporter; Patsy Patrick and Edith Barina, Librarians.The San Saba County Historical Society, which has been in the process of organizing for the past two months, has enrolled 73 charter members. A total of 880 students enrolled in San Saba Public School last week according to Superintendent J.L. Akridge.

60 Years AgoSeptember 18, 1952

The San Saba River bridge on the Pecan Grove Road fell to the river bed with a loaded truck Wednesday afternoon just ahead of flood waters racing down the stream. The driver of the truck was uninjured.San Saba's Worst flood since 1938. Damage was comparatively light. Rain gauges throughout the county recorded anywhere from between 5 and 22 inches.San Saba High School students elected student council officers Monday. Officers elected were Robert Lee Daniels, Vice President; Rita Locklear, Secretary; Nelda Behrens, Corresponding Secretary; Gordon Clark, Parliamentarian; Mary Nell Millican, Treasurer; Ramonalene Reavis, Reporter; and Tommy Gunter, President.Prices around town: pint jar Miracle Whip 29 cents; large box Cheer or Tide detergent 29 cents; ground meat 55 cents lb.; lean sliced bacon 69 cents lb.
