San Saba City Council approves budget for coming year

The San Saba City Council held a Public hearing at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, September 11th in the Council Chambers. Mayor Ken Jordan called the meeting to order and announced a quorum with alderman Mark Amthor absent. Alderman Martha Leigh Whitten gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.City Secretary, Gale Ivy read a proclamation recognizing all First Responders and remembering the September 11, 2001 tragedy for a National Moment of Remembrance.The following information was presented for the Public Hearing: The City of San Saba presents at this time to consider adopting a proposed budget for FY 2012-2013 and tax rate for the 2012 tax year. The proposed tax rate remains the same, $.31942 per $100 evaluation. Property taxes collected in 2012 will be $12,618 less that what was collected in 2011 due to a reduction in the total tax roll. All Citizens are invited to express their views on the proposed city budget and tax rate.The Public Hearing was closed with no citizens present. Eric Morgan, a five year City Employee was presented the Employee of the Month Award. His name was added to the plaque, he will have a day off with pay and was given a $25 gift certificate at a local restaurant. The following Consent Agenda Items were approved:1. Minutes from the August 14th and 28th Council meetings.2. Payment of bills presented to City Council.3. Resolution No. 20112-26 authorizing the City to enter into an agreement with TxDOT for the closure of Wallace Street on December 8, 2012 to accommodate the Christmas Parade.4. Updated contract with Municipal Judge Leslie Dawson.After discussion, the following Action Items were approved:A. Resolution 2012-27, the proposed budget for the Fiscal Year beginning October 1,2012 and ending September 30, 2013.B. Ordinance No. 2012-09 levying a tax rate of $.31942 for the City of San Saba for 2012.C. Ordinance No. 2012-10 amending Ordinance No. 2011-07 Specifically “Exhibit A” Fee schedule for certain city services.Stan Weik, City Manager reported that at the present time, 12 applications forthe golf pro position have been received; the water cannon will be installed this week; the Fiesta Celebration will be this weekend; sewer line work was done on South Live Oak Street; and there is a need to review loans to get comparison of rates.Scott Glaze, Director of the Public Works Director, reported on the renovation of the “old swimming pool” at Risien Park and invited people to come see it. There is a new employee in his department who was unable to attend the meeting and be introduced. Mayor Jordan commended all the departments on their budget preparations for FY 2012-2013 before adjourning the council meeting.
