Thursday, September 20, 2012 • Posted September 20, 2012

On Tuesday, September 11th, from 5:30 to 6:45 approximately 200 people gathered at the Mill Pond Park Pavilion to “Remember - Remind - Resolve.” This event was sponsored by the San Saba County Chamber of Commerce with people from 14 organizations, businesses, and individuals participating in the program. The program included the Welcome by Marian Deans, Director/Event Coordinator of the San Saba County Chamber of Commerce; Opening Prayer, Pastor of The Father’s House, Tom Brand; The Boy Scouts of Troop 55 presented the Colors and the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag; the National Anthem was performed by the San Saba High School Golden Armadillo Band; the Guest Speaker, Dr. Dave Fair from Brownwood, Texas; Tony Guidroz, Director of Economic Development and Tourism for City of San Saba, presented a 9/11 Video; Mark Amthor and Brad Williams sang “Have You Forgotten;” “Taps” was played by a San Saba High School Trumpeter at the close of the program.Guest Speaker, Dr. Dave Fair, took us back to that terrible tragic time of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 when he was assigned to the Port Authority as a disaster responder. He has responded to disasters such as hurricanes, the east Texas Space Shuttle Disaster; the Killeen shootings, Central Texas fires and numerous other disasters. However, he stated that none of them compare to the Rescue to Recovery efforts of “Ground Zero” in New York City as he worked with many who became “Ground Hero’s.”Celia Bell and other volunteers sold T-shirts for the event with proceeds of $500 each going to the San Saba County EMS and the San Saba VFD. Recognition was given to our local First Responders that attended the ceremony; they included: volunteer firemen who arrived in a firetruck; EMS came in an ambulance; an Air Evac Lifeteam came in a helicopter, and the Sheriff’s Department and local police came in their vehicles. Flags were handed out and folks were asked to take a moment to stop by the 9-11 memorial and plant their flags. We will all remember where we were and what we were doing on that fateful day of 9/11, eleven years ago. So let’s also remember Dr. Fairs four points: 1. Our USA Patriotism; 2. Work together and help in time of need; 3. Respect for law enforcement; 4. Be aware of your surroundings and situation. Then he added, God Bless America!
