Little Dillos lose tough battle to Lampasas Badgers 18-6
Thursday, September 13, 2012 • Posted September 13, 2012

The 3rd and 4th grade Little Dillos struggled to run the ball against a very strong Lampasas Badger defense this past week at Rogan Field in San Saba. With little running success, the Little Dillos turned to the air and thrilled spectators with a number of pass completions by Risien Shahan to Ryan Mathis, Logan Glover, and Brighton Adams. Mathis scored the only touchdown of the day for the Dillos on a 14 yard pass from Shahan just before halftime, which narrowed the score to 12-6 Badgers. The second half of play resulted in both teams moving the ball, with very little scoring thanks to some hard hitting tackles from Logan Glover and Wesley Lackey. The Little Dillos defensive front included Landon Short, Bladen Calley, Christian Van Bibber, Kylar Menchaca, and James Carlisle. They battled at the line of scrimmage against a Badger team that was much bigger until only 3:00 remained in the game when Lampasas scored on a run of 38 yards on a 4th down and 8 against the Dillos. Coach Shahan, Glover, Morgan, and Schulze were hoping to make a defensive stop and get the ball back for a final chance to drive the ball down the field for a potential win, however the Badgers touchdown rained on the parade and resulted in the Little Dillos first loss of the season. Leading cheers for the Little Dillos as cheerleaders on Saturday were Madison Shahan, Jaycie Everett, Olivia Lebow, Landri Glover, Jasmine Davila, Kaeley Brooks, and Jaela Nelson. They sported a new Little Dillos “run-through” sign that was loads of fun for the football players! This week the Little Dillos will face Johnson City’s Little Eagles in an exciting game in Lampasas at noon on Saturday the 15th. The local support displayed for the Little Dillos this season has been, and continues to be, greatly appreciated! The coaches want to thank all of the fans that supported the 3rd and 4th grade and the 5th and 6th grade teams in San Saba this past weekend on a cool and exciting day for football. Well over 1,200 fans traveled to San Saba’s Rogan Field and attended football games in support of their football teams.
