How's Your Faith?
Thursday, September 13, 2012 • Posted September 13, 2012

Each summer Wayland teaches a rope course at camp. He does not teach how to make a knot or to lasso an animal, though I am sure he could. I have never been on a course but there are great lessons he teaches. Some of the things he does are low to the ground and some are higher. Are you afraid of heights? One of the lessons that he teaches is that we can step out by faith and not to be afraid. Anyone who takes part in this is very well protected and cannot fall. However, to some it may be scary. Our faith is like that sometimes. We're told, "for we walk by faith, not by sight - "2 Corinthians 5:7 (NASB). Most of us are content to hold on to the things we can see. We like the safety and the security. To step out in faith means we do not know the outcome but we do trust in the One who asks us to do it. It is easier to trust in the tangible things that we have - money, strength, health, etc. But as God's people, we're called to a higher calling. We do not trust in things, but in the One who makes all things. The Hebrew writer tells us, "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1 (NASB) We are told faith consists of two things, assurance and conviction. We are assured of the things that we hope for. The hope we have is that God will save us in the end because we have been obedient to Him. We will live with Him in glory through the ages. The conviction is of things that are not seen. I firmly believe in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. I have never seen any of them. However, I have the evidence all around me of a Creator and find that He loves me immensely. We don't see the wind but when it blows on our face, we have the evidence it is there.Later the Hebrew writer said, "And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him." Hebrews 11:6 (NASB) If we do not have faith, we cannot please God. If we come to Him we must believe He is - no questions! No doubts! And when we do, He will reward us; not with money or anything else but our home with Him.Let's all makes sure that we are stepping out by faith in our God. Don't be afraid, as He is there for His Children. Trust in the Lord with all your heart.
