Thursday, September 13, 2012 • Posted September 13, 2012

On Saturday, September 8th this reporter went to Mill Pond Park in San Saba, Texas and enjoyed seeing Mill Pond Park in a different perspective; thru the eyes of a 13 year old on a paddle boat. Braiden Johnson is the 13 year old that shared a vision with his father, Robby Johnson, to provide fun and enjoyment to the community. They started one year ago this month, getting permission from the City Council for the new business which they named Up A Creek Adventure Sports Rentals to operate at the park.At the present time they have paddle boats, kayaks, canoes and inner tubes. The summer was busy with rentals for reunions, holidays, weekends and private parties at the park and also personal use when they are picked up and taken to the river. Life jackets are provided for all occupants of the rentals at no extra fee and an added feature to rent at a low cost is an oblong water gun (looks like a 3 foot tube) for a spray of fun.The cost is $7.00 for 30 minutes and $12.00 for one hour. Many of their customers see the sign at the entrance of Mill Pond Park and they have come for fun from Europe, England, California, Mexico, S. Carolina, Arizona and all over Texas. A permanent building is being planned that will expand their business and provide storage for their equipment at MIll Pond Park. The expansion includes hiring extra help, renting fishing equipment and bicycles. They will sell bottled water, snow cones, candy, souveniers, T-shirts and misc. items. Braiden is a middle school student at San Saba ISD and acheived a college entry score when he took the ACT test in 7th grade; he plays tuba in the marching band; and is an all A student. He is a member of the First Baptist Church in San Saba where he is an AWANA youth leader and recently went on a mission trip to Corpus Christi with his youth group. The Johnson family also includes Braiden’s sister, 10 year old Brytin and his mother, Angela who owns and operates the Cuttin’ Up Salon in San Saba and she is an SSISD Board member. Robby Johnson operates a Barber Shop at Cuttin’ Up Salon, is in business with his brother, Josh at the T & T Automotive in San Saba and, of course, assists with the operation of Up A Creek Adventure Sports Rentals. Up A Creek is on facebook and accepts credit cards. You can contact them at 325-372-8881 or 325- 205-3322
