Delays and Complications
Thursday, September 6, 2012 • Posted September 6, 2012

There are times in our lives when we are in a hurry to get something done and over with. And yet there are things that cause delay along the way.Recently I went to the hospital and got there on a Friday evening. They do not do testing until Monday so I am in the hospital two days before I can find the problem that is plaguing my body. After the tests are performed and learning surgery is needed, the operating room was full and could not handle another surgery. Then the doctor doing the surgery could not do it on the next day, so I waited two days for surgery. Have you ever encountered delays when you wanted something done quickly? I'm certain you have. Then there were complications. Sometimes things in life get complicated and these are beyond our control. After surgery my blood pressure dropped. This was not suppose to happen so it caused the healing process to slow. After that, one other slight problem and then I would be able to go home. There are times that delays happen and these are beyond your control. The airline you are flying on has mechanical problems or weather has caused a delay - you had nothing to do with it. The bus broke down on the way to the game and the team could not get there on time. Another bus had to be called and then a later start time finally allowed the game to continue. These things are out of your control. And then there are things that are delayed that you are in control of. It is your choice to wait until the last minute to get something done. You knew the deadline was coming, but you waited until the last possible moment and had to rush, and did not do a very good job. That is your fault. Not all the delays in life are beyond our control, but we control getting them done. What are some of the things that you have delayed doing? Speaking a kind word to someone who is feeling down? Visiting someone who is having hardships in their lives? Sending a note of thanks to those who have helped you? You get the idea.If we delay too long it could cause some horrible complications. If you know you need to obey the Lord and you put it off, the complication could be that you lose your home in Heaven. I don't know of anyone who wants that. "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might; for there is no activity or planning or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol where you are going."Ecclesiastes 9:10 (NASB)
