9/11 Commemoration
Remember, Remind, Resolve
Thursday, September 6, 2012 • Posted September 6, 2012

Let’s all get together on Tuesday, September 11th to remember what happened 11 years ago, to remind ourselves of the horrible tragedy and to resolve to never, ever let anything like this happen again.Start your day at 8:00 a.m. by calling KNUZ Radio Host, Skeebo Norris at 372.5224. Skeebo invites you to tell others what you remember about that shocking morning. Tell others what 9/11 means to you. Tell us what you will personally commit to do to make our country stronger and create a more peaceful world. Later that day, stop by the Rylander Library and check out the collection of books about 9/11. Then, bring the kids to the Garden Clubhouse at 4:30 p.m. to take advantage of the patriotic craft activities created by homeschooler extraordinaire Kacey Sloan. There will be an opportunity for you and your child to complete a patriotic craft, read from a selection of 9/11 children’s books and refresh your memory about some American trivia. The Kids Craft activities will end just in time for you to get to the Mill Pond Park Pavilion for the main event which begins at 5:30 p.m.As you arrive at the Pavilion, you’ll notice the American flags placed by the Rotary Club and the colorful banners provided by the Traveling Trunks Team. As the commemoration begins, patriotic live music will energize the crowd. Members of our local clergy will offer prayers, and Chaplain Dave Fair, one of the First Responders at Ground Zero, will tell his personal story. Dave Fair is a long time chaplain for the Brownwood Police Department and the Brown County Sheriff’s Department. He is a former chaplain at Brownwood Regional Medical Center. Fair holds a PhD and has been a disaster responder for some 20 years responding to a number of disaters including hurricanes, the east Texas Space Shuttle Disaster, the Killeen shootings, central Texas fires and others disasters. He spent a week at Ground Zero following the 9/11 terrorist attacks assigned to the Port Authority. It is our honor and privilege to have Mr. Fair attend San Saba’s 9/11 Commemoration and share his experiences as a Ground Zero first responder. Everyone is invited to this free event. The day’s activities are sponsored by the San Saba Chamber of Commerce, the Historical Museum, Friends of the Library, Garden Club, Rotary Club, Traveling Trunks Team and City of San Saba.
