It is time to kickoff the 2012 season. Friday night sees the Tolar Rattlers coming to Rogan Field for the first meeting between the two schools. The Armadillos have 15 returning lettermen and 16 seniors on the 2012 squad.Taking over at quarterback is junior Kelan Verette. Last season, Verette was 2-7 passing for 52 yards and 1 TD as the backup for Ryan Pannell. He also had 20 carries for 179 yards and 3 scores as a running back.The running game will be anchored by Sean Argote and Russell Lowe. Argot had 53 carries for 320 yards and 2 TDs in 2011. Lowe added 21 attempts and 91 yards as support. Argote added 2 catches and Lowe had 1 reception.Returning wide receiver Jarrett Mathis moves to the primary receiver spot with Juan Ortega joining him on the other side. Mathis had 3 catches for 30 yards in 2011.The offensive line will be a strong point with seven returning lettermen. On the line will be Nathan Amstead (2011 co-newcomer of the year), Diego Montoya, Russton Ellis, Aaron Perez and Michael McKinnerney. Joining them are returnees Juan Carlos Garcia and Dusty Parum.The kicking game will be handled by junior Rodney Ortiz. Ortiz did an excellent job in PAT in 2011 and is expected to do the same this year. Also returning for the Armadillos are Mario Valdez and Luis Vega.Joining the varsity for the season are seniors Garrett Hartranft, Oscar Zepeda and Kolton Haverland. The juniors coming up are Kolton Ellis, Jordan Watson, TJ Hibler, Cosme Diaz, Brian Rogers, Dylan Rosales and Ruben Aguirre. Watson moves into the starting tight end position.Kickoff is set for 7:30. Come out and support San Saba in a new district - new region - new classification, but same tradition.
