The 2012-2013 school year at Richland Springs began last Monday. Thanks to the teachers and staff and students, we had a great first week of school. The teachers and staff had a great week of in-service training. Thanks to Brownwood ISD for hosting training through the Region XV Service Center for our teachers and staff on August 21st. Students registered for classes on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. It was nice meeting parents and sharing ideas on the importance of parent involvement in the success of their child’s education. Students and staff have been challenged to become a TEA Recognized campus. Students were also challenged to achieve good attendance for the coming school year. Expectations are high. Thanks to the leadership from the varsity cheerleaders under the direction of Sherri Ashworth, spirit is high at school. Our first game will be a short 1 hour drive to May, Texas. The May game pep rally will be this Friday at 3:00 p.m. in the gym. Our athletic program is second to none. Our football team has lost zero games in the past two years, winning the back-to-back state six-man championships. The varsity team and coaches are working to become the only 6-man school in Texas to win six state championships. They had a very competitive scrimmage last week against Valley and Throckmorton. Girl’s athletics are on the rise. Basketball and tennis have made great strides in the past two years. The Board of Trustees proposed a $1.17 tax rate for the 2012-2013 school year. There will be a public hearing on the proposed 2012-2013 tax rate and budget on August 30th at 6:00 p.m. in the RSISD Cafetorium, with a board meeting to follow. Student success and safety are first and foremost at Richland Springs.
