Charles B. Martin, Jr., of Plainview, Texas, passed away on August 22, 2012 in Plainview. The funeral service was held at 10:30a.m., Saturday, August 25, 2012 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Travis Hart officiating and Dr. Tim Marrow assisting. Burial followed in Plainview Memorial Park, under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.Visitation was held Friday, August 24, 2012 from 6:00p.m. to 7:30p.m. at the funeral home.Charles was born on November 14, 1920 in Waco, TX to Charles and Pat Martin. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1943, was a World War II Veteran and past County Agent for Oldam county. In 1944 he married the love of his life, LaVerne Gregory in Petersburg, TX. He was the owner of a gas distributorship in Edmondson and Hart, TX; and later managed the Nanny Farms for 30 years. He retired to his ranch in San Saba, TX in 1981 and then pursued his ranching interest in New Mexico. He was a member of First Baptist Church.Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and a great-granddaughter.He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Laverne Gregory Martin; two sons and their wives, Mark & Carol Martin of San Saba, TX, and Doug & Erin Martin of Plainview, TX; five grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren: Jim & Amy Faught, Paige, John and Jake of San Saba, TX; Larry & Christa Triplett, Zach & Kenny of San Saba, TX; Russell & Emily Foreman, Cooper, Connor, Marcus & Brynlee of Friendswood, TX; Brad & Kara Martin, Braden, Cole, and Adri of Plainview, TX; and Gerardo & Natalie Zavala, Sofia and Nicholas of San Antonio, TX.Memorial may be made to Interim Hospice, 2620 Yonkers Plainview, TX 79072.
