All of the rain was east of the Bend, reports of two tenths were reported around the Bend and Lampasas received one inch and four tenths and in some places south of Lampasas over 2 inches. Those people have to be doing something right to have received all that rain. They need to tell everyone at Bend what the secret is as rain is badly needed around the county. It may be possible for this area to get rain late Monday afternoon.Jerome and Shirley Meischen, Les and Brenda Dawson spent a few days in Ruidoso, N. M..last week enjoying the nice cool weather. They reported that the mornings were in the 50’s and 70’s up in the day. While there Jerome saw a bear close to the cabin that they rented and they observed elk, deer, turkey and geese. They throughly enjoyed their New Mexico vacation. On their way home when they stopped in San Angelo, Jerome asked Shirley “if she wanted to turn around and go back,” because it was getting hot and hotter as they got closer to home.There has been something new added at the establishment of Bad Bob’s store. He reported that he has a covered slab and it will be used to host birthday parties and any other kind of party someone might want to have.R.J. and Patsy Henniger will be kept busy this week as they are keeping their two grandsons Josh and Anthony. Surely R.J. will be able to find something for the two boys to do or to get into, as he is especially good at finding things to do.The community was saddened Saturday by the death of Jolene Lively. She was well known by everyone who lived in the Bend area. She was a long time member of the Bend Methodist church where she served as church secretary for many years. She had been the postmaster at Bend for many years before her retirement. The first postoffice where she worked still stands across the street from Bad Bob’s store. Her health had been in decline for sometime. She was a cancer survivor and survived a bad fall which incapacitated her for sometime. She will be missed greatly by her family and her many friends. Her funeral was scheduled for Wednesday, August 22, at 10:00 a.m. at the Heritage Funeral home in San Saba.Bonnie Millican reported on the Camp meeting this past week. She reported that Rev. Harlene Sadler did an excellent job and her messages really touched every-one’s hearts. The first two nights the attendance was very good. The first night it was rather warm, but then was cooler for the rest of the time. Everyone enjoyed the preaching, music and of course the good food .Happy birthday greetings go out to Darrel Herd who will celebrate a birthday August 24, to Kristi Messer who will celebrate a birthday August 27, to Debbie Herd and Trenton Hamrick who will be celebrating a birthday August 29 and Eric Hernandez who will celebrate a birthday August 30. If you happen to run into any of the above stop and wish them a happy birthday.
