The descendants of John Allen and Dennie Lee Lusty Crain held their annual family reunion the weekend of August 4, 2012. One day of visiting and reminiscing was not enough for this family—they needed three (3) days to “catch up.” The first gathering began Friday, August 3, with a hamburger & hot dog supper at the home of Franklin & Sandra Crain in Cherokee, TX. A total of 43 family members attended to enjoy the food, drinks & visiting. It was a wonderful way to begin the three-day annual reunion!The second-day main event was Saturday, August 4, 2012, at the RV Park Clubhouse in San Saba, TX. A total of 79 family members gathered to enjoy the activities & entertainment for the day. Some went swimming at the Mill Pond Park Swimming Pool; others checked out the “goodies” at the courthouse square and specialty shops downtown; some visited the new Winery; and the rest hung out at the Clubhouse to try their luck at winning prizes to be announced after the evening meal. Those prizes included a jar of Peanut M&M’s, a jar of Jellybeans, a money jar, a handmade quilt, and Red Solo Cup door prizes.A catered meal by Gage’s Barbeque, which included brisket, sausage, & chicken with all the fixings, was enjoyed by all. After the evening meal, all family members were introduced and group pictures were taken. A brief meeting was held to make announcements & discuss any news within the family.A silent and live auction ended the fun-filled day. Family members brought their “treasures” to be auctioned to raise funds for the next reunion. The auctioneer, Franklin Crain, volunteered Randle Crain and Danny Donovan as his “spotters,” and the fun began! It was a very special reunion for several reasons. Those attending were Charlotte Crain; Theresa Basile Andrews & Emily; Mary Basile & Bethany; & Dan Basile, all of Milwaukee, Ws; & Joe Bill & Cathy Crain, Killeen, Tx.Others attending on Saturday were Beverly Murray & Michael Murray; & Mozelle Boulting-house. The third “landing” was back at Cherokee, Tx. Steve & Darline Crain Boultinghouse hosted a Sunday brunch of beef brisket, pork loin (plus the fixings for fajitas), pork ribs, beans, potato salad & watermelon & cantaloupe, as well as mimosas. The kids enjoyed a swim in the tank while the adults continued their visit. A total of 50 family members enjoyed the feast.The next annual Crain Reunion will be held August 3, 2013 at the Mill Pond Park Civic Center.
