San Saba City Council meets August 14th Golf Course Road being paved

The San Saba City Council conducted a Public Hearing prior to the regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, August 14th at 6:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.Mayor Ken Jordan called the Council to order and announced a quorum present with Charlie Peeler and Shawn Oliver absent. Alderman Mark Amthor gave the invocation, followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags. The Public Hearing was to allow citizens an opportunity to discuss the citizen participation plan, the development of local housing and community development needs, the amount of TxCDBG funding available, all eligible TxCDBG activities, and the use of past TxCDBG funds. Mayor Jordan closed the Public Hearing with no one present for discussion.The Employee of the Month award was presented to Bob Carroll. The Supervisor of the Quarter was presented to Charlene Lindsey, City Treasurer. Both recipients were given a $25 gift certificate to a local restaurant, a day off with pay and their name added to the plaque. The following Consent Agenda Items were approved:1. Minutes from the July 10th and 23rd Council meetings.2. Payment of bills presented to Council.3. Resolution No. 2012-22 waiving noise ordinance for August 25th, at Risien Park for Susan Stetar.4. Resolution No. 2012-23 waiving noise ordinance for September 22nd, at Mill Pond Park for Marcela Cervantes.5. Resolution No. 2012-24 waiving noise ordinance for September 15th, at Risien Park for Amanda Tupin.6. Resolution No. 2012-25 waiving noise ordinance for September 1st, at Mill Pond Park for Gloria Garcia.7. Appointed Shawn Oliver to the San Saba Economic Development Corporation to replace Mark Amthor for a term ending January 2014.The following Action Items were approved:A. Ordinance No. 2012-08 an update for Dangerous Buildings to replace Ordinance No. 2011-03.B. Rate increase of $.03 per 1,000 gallons of water for the North San Saba Water Supply Corp.C. Set August 28th for a Called Meeting/Public Hearing to adopt budget and approve tax rate.City Manager, Stan Weik reported the following:a. Work at Risien Park cleaning/repairing the swimming pool.b. Sludge has been dredged, spread and the area fenced and the water cannon will be installed.c. Work is being done on the inside of the new building of the San Saba Volunteer Fire Department. d. The Banners in the downtown area will be changed to the Pecan Jam Banners and the Christmas banners are being ordered.Scott Glaze, Director of the Public Works Department reported that the Golf Course road is being paved. Tony Guidroz, Economic Development/Tourism Director, reported on two Economic Development conferences he attended in Brownwood and San Antonio; arrangements for the Pecan Jam are being finalized as well as for the Fiesta.City Secretary, Gale Ivy, reported that the next City Council meeting will be held Tuesday, September 11th, at 6 p.m. After a discussion regarding the local special program commemorating 9-11, Mayor Jordan adjourned the meeting.
