The San Saba Ladies Golf Association met August 2, 2012 for the monthly business meeting with President Anita Miles calling on Janet Hoyt to open the meeting with prayer. She then welcomed Kathleen Hawkins, who is a great golfer and Anita encouraged her to become a member. She also welcomed Courtney Phillips from Lampasas, Texas, friend and guest of Janet Hoyt. Courtney is a sophomore at Lampasas High School and was a delightful young lady. Secretary Jo Anne Hardy read the minutes and they were approved as read and Treasurer Hattie Rogers gave the financial report. We had a report on Sandee Hartley, who has had surgery to remove a tumor from her ear, but little did we know it was so invasive until Jim Hartley, her husband, had pictures. We are just praising the Lord that it was not cancer and she will be back playing soon. Hattie Rogers, Chair for August, asked Anita to plan the game, so it was “Best At Something”, a point for being in the fairway, a point for being on the green in regulation, and a point for a one putt - minus a point for a lost ball, being in a hazard, or a three putt. Debbie Lee was the grand winner of the day. She won the game, Low Gross, Chip In Pot, and Putt Pot! We may send her back to Brownwood. Just joking, we are always delighted when Debbie gets to come to play day. And a close second in the game, was her mom, Dorothy Sterner! Those Sterner girls are ‘best at something’. Third went to Kathleen and fourth to Anita. Hattie Rogers was Low Net for the day. It was great to have Peggy Jones back on the links with us. The ladies met August 9, 2012 for play day with the Chair for August, Hattie Rogers, calling for the game 6 - 6 - 6 (you play the first six holes scramble, the second six holes Scotch twosome, and the last six holes low ball). The team of Dorothy Sterner and Kathleen Hawkins came in way ahead of the pack with a great score of 84. Second place was the team of Jo Anne Hardy and Peggy Jones. Anita Miles and Jo Ann Snow and Hattie Rogers and Janet Hoyt limped in, but finished in the sultry Texas heat. Anita and Jo Ann Snow both scored the only birdies of the day and they also chipped in to share the Chip In Pott with Janet and Dorothy. Pat Ribb joined the ladies for lunch and it was her birthday. So, we all got to celebrate with her on her special day! The Club Championship is scheduled for August 25 -26, 2012 and we hope we will have many ladies playing this year. It is a special event with flights for every level of play and is a way of supporting the San Saba River Golf Course. It is the only event for all members to participate in. So it’s important to keep on ‘swinging!'
