Where were you on 9-11?
Thursday, August 16, 2012 • Posted August 16, 2012

Most of us will never forget where we were on the morning of September 11, 2001. As the first plane flew into the North Tower of the World Trade Center, it just seemed like another horrible accident in a big city thousands of miles away. Then, when the second plane exploded into the South Tower, we realized that the tragedy was no accident. It was an intentional, evil attack on our country and our people.Emotions ran the gamut. We were sad about the death and destruction. We were angry with the perpetrators. We were incredibly proud of the first responders. We were hopeful that our leaders would keep us safe. We were fearful that another attack might occur. We were terrified that the next attack might harm our loved ones. This year, several local groups are working together to commemorate 9-11. On Tuesday evening, September 11, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. we will gather at the Gazebo at Mill Pond Park. There will be music by members of the San Saba High School Band, patriotic singing, a short speech, prayers at the beginning and at the end, kids craft activities at the Garden Clubhouse and much, much more.Bring your family and your picnic basket and come spend the evening at the park. The purpose of the commemoration is to remind us of this terrible tragedy, to educate our children about it and to help strengthen our resolve to keep our country and our families safe from future attacks. The San Saba Chamber is coordinating the event with Marian Deans serving as Project Coordinator. Other groups participating include the Historical Museum, Friends of the Library, Garden Club, Rotary Club, Traveling Trunks Team, Homeschoolers and the City of San Saba. Plans are still being developed and additional community groups are encouraged to participate. If you’re interested in helping, please call Marian at 325.423.4703 or email her at: mdeans@centex.net
