I hope that you are staying cool and enjoying the summer! Time flies by, and the 2012-13 school year is upon us! We are open and ready for students at the elementary school. We have several new teachers at the elementary and some old faces in new places. It is really shaping up to be an exciting school year. Teacher assignments will be posted on the office windows on the morning of August 24th, and we will kick off the year with “Meet the Teacher” on Friday, August 24th, from 2:00p.m.-3:00p.m. This is a time for you and your child to drop off school supplies, see where the classrooms are, and say a quick hello to teachers. Due to the construction of the new elementary school, we have made changes to the drop off and dismissal for students. Parking will be an issue during the upcoming school year, and we apologize ahead of time for any inconvenience. Please help us by being patient while we work out the new system.DROP OFF: All students will be dropped off on Storey Street each morning. Busses will be dropping off on Storey Street as well, so please flow traffic from east to west to help maintain safety. Students cannot be dropped off earlier than 7:20a.m. Students in K-4 will go directly to the cafeteria, and students in PK will be taken to an alternate location. If you plan to walk your child into the school on the first day, do not park your car on Storey Street. For the time being, parking is still available in front of the office. DISMISSAL: We have two dismissal areas. Regular dismissal for students in grades K-4 is 3:35p.m. Students in grades 2, 3, and 4 will dismiss on the corner of 7th and Storey (near the nurses office). Traffic will flow from 7th Street (next to the practice field) and run east on Storey. PK-4 will dismiss from the same location at 2:30p.m. Grades K and 1 will dismiss on 9th Street (in front of the Ag building). Traffic will flow from 9th Street in the direction of the middle school, and will run west on Storey. Students in PK-3 will be dismissed from the same location at 11:15a.m. Please do not park your car on Storey Street to pick your child up at dismissal time. Busses will pick up students and move to the parking lot of the red and white gyms, so parking there could cause you to be blocked in. The easiest process is to stay in the line and let a staff member deliver your child to your car. Walkers will be dismissed after the car lines have gone down to allow for the safety of the walking students. Please do not hesitate to stop by the elementary office or to give us a call if you have questions. We are looking forward to an exciting school year! Enjoy the rest of your summer!
