Elm Grove Echoes
Thursday, August 9, 2012 • Posted August 9, 2012

We are so hot and dry up in our country and there is just a slight chance for rain in the forecast. Our chances do not look good for any moisture. The 2012 Elm Grove rodeo is now behind us. For the first time ever, I just couldn't make it. This awful heat is unbearable to me. Michael and I stayed home and watched the Rangers while Marilyn and Bethany attended the rodeo. The report is that the crowds were smaller than usual. The heat might have been a problem for everyone as well as gas prices. Another rodeo was going on at Coleman, also. The contestants came from far and near to Elm Grove. Some places mentioned were Big Lake, Del Rio, Garden City, Odessa, Hawley, Troy and Comfort. How these folks even hear about the Elm Grove rodeo is a mystery to me, but we are pleased that they come. Sounds like the usual bunch of workers were on hand to help out and I know the rodeo association appreciates that. The workers' appreciation supper will be held at a later date. So many of the old faces are gone and, unfortunately, not very many young folks are turning out to help. It takes a lot of work to put on the rodeo! There are only three charter members of the original Roping Club still surviving. They are Glen Bush, Rooster Holland and Andy Cummings. Rooster did not make the rodeo but Glen was there one night and Andy was there all three nights from start to finish! The Busy Bee quilters will not meet in August due to the illness of Irene Hammett. We send our best wishes to Irene for a speedy recovery! The 42 tournament will be this Saturday night, the 11th, at Mercury.School is just around the corner and the teachers are busy getting ready for it. It sounds like we are going to be doing quite a bit of babysitting for Amy Tucker while she attends work days.
