Dear Editor,

A very common expression often heard in reference to an old person's age is so many "years young." Why? ? What's wrong with being OLD? It's an inevitable life passage if one lives long enough. I will be, in the words of Lincoln at Gettysburg, "4 score and seven" in August, 2012, (this month). I'll be 87 years old and not 87 years young, like I have been already told. That is false-flattery, and is very condescending and patronizing, at best.I am fortunate to be in reasonably good health when sitting, and have no problem driving competently, and handling business requirements. Unfortunately, I am in an advanced state of severe Rheumatoid Arthritis that makes walking and standing painful and difficult. I need no help, except with the opening of doors, for which I am very appreciative and grateful. God bless the thoughtful ones, and thank you, very much. Sincerely, Kenneth E. DrewsSan Saba, Tx
