County Commissioners vote unanimously to issue county-wide burn ban

The San Saba County Commissioners Court was held on Monday, August 6th at 9:00 a.m. in the County Judge’s Chambers. County Judge, Byron Theodosis called the Court to order and welcomed everyone. Commissioner Kenley Kroll gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.Action was taken on the following items:1. Approved the minutes of the previous Commissioners Court Meeting.2. Approved, subject to audit, the Clerk’s report presented by County Clerk Kim Wells.3. Approved, subject to audit, the Treasurer’s report presented by County Treasurer Gayla Hawkins.4. Approved, subject to audit, the County Justice of the Peace report presented by Judge Les Dawson.5. Approved subject to audit, the County Sheriff’s report. Commissioner Kroll confirmed the jail report of 12.97 average since last month. 6. Approved the yearly renewal of the home-delivered Meal Grant Program in the amount of $414.00, Texas Department of Agriculture.7. Approved the payment of bills presented by County Treasurer, Gayla Hawkins.Jeff Kloc, Benefits Broker/Consultant with The Bene Tex Group (a Division of Gallagher Benefit Services, Inc.), gave a presentation offering a Broker Sales and Service Model for Health Insurance benefits. Chief Appraiser, Randy Henderson, San Saba County Appraisal District, gave an estimate from a local business in the amount of $5,200 to repair/replace the flooring at the County Annex Building which was damaged by flooding. Two groups presented and discussed the new state program, Texas’ 1115 Medicaid Waiver. The first group was represented by Janice Ehlert, Project Director of the Health Science Center (Texas A&M) Round Rock, TX, assisted by Lindsay Pollok, MPH, Senior Program Coordinator. The second group was represented by Dion White, Chief Executive Officer of the Center for Life Resources, Brownwood, TX, accompanied by Jim Barnes, CFO. Chief Appraiser, Randy Henderson, gave information regarding the Tax Revenues for the County.The Commissioners unanimously enacted a Burn Ban for the entire county. Agriculture burns can be made only after notifying the Sheriff’s Department and following precautions. A grass fire 10 miles north west of San Saba on FM 500 that started Sunday, August 5th, has not been contained at the time of the meeting. The next Commissioners Court will be August 27th, at 9 a.m. in the County Judge’s Chambers.
