Goodness gracious, July is almost gone! Look out kids, school is coming! I’ve been so busy this summer that the whole holiday’s thing has just flown by without a break. I am headed for Canada next week. Russ is going to batch it for a few days. Actually it will be about two weeks. I’ll try to send the column from Canada. My sister lives out of the city so internet is not always reliable. I hate to complain because this summer has been so much better than last year’s break. Still, it is beginning to get toasty hot, and I’m not fond of toasty hot. The absolute best thing about this week is the fact that Scott gets to leave Afghanistan and return home to his family! I can’t touch him because he is still in Germany, but at least I know he is with the people who love him so much. They will be in Germany another 18 months so granny still won’t get to hug everyone, but I can at least Skype them! Scott will be back in time to be present when his wife Heather puts on her Senior Master Sergeant’s strips. My two soldiers are very special people at the top of their game! My grandkids are ecstatic that their daddy is coming home. That scenario is being played out all over the United States. Homecoming is an emotional and exciting time.Last Wednesday, 16 beautiful ladies carpooled over to Sandy Reed’s home for a little fellowship and a peek at her sewing room. Sandy provided us with a very special devotion on our adoption into the family of God. We had some scrumptious snack foods and the frozen strawberry cake was so tempting I dumped the diet and enjoyed every tasty morsel. Sandy has made herself a quaint little corner of the world in a building just steps away from her home. It is beautifully decorated and full of her sewing goodies. I can tell you that many of us were really envious of the quiet and the space. I’ve been eyeing all the sheds around here and trying to figure out which one I can commandeer for my little “sewing nook.”The report from Bro. Barry on youth camp is that it was a marvelous experience. He will be in a promotional video about the Lake Brownwood camp. It seems that way back in history; he dedicated his life to God’s ministry at that very camp. If you want an amusing story; ask him about his bounce experience. The bounce is a large object that has one person sit on the edge and another person jump on the back. The resulting physics, causes one person to launch into the air and then into the water. Unlike physics laws that are constant, Murphy’s Law allows for the unexpected and unfortunate. He is recovering from his “launch.”The wedding of Jessica Argote to Shane Phillips will be held at the Christian Church on Tuesday the 31st. Bro. Barry Fikes will be officiating; friends and family are welcomed to attend. We wish this young couple all the best for a safe, peaceful and prosperous future. Jessica is a wonderful and caring young lady, always ready to support her family if needed. May God bless and keep this marriage stable and whole.Vacation Bible School starts Sunday the 29th. It will start at 6:00pm every evening and end on Thursday. Parents are always welcome to stay and watch the children learning about God. This year’s theme is on praise. I looked over the crafts, and I’m very sad to say that I hate the fact I won’t be here to do all of them! The music is alive and vibrant and the Bible stories are designed to teach our young ones about Jesus. Our world is in a terrible mess, but we have an answer. It lies in the person of Jesus Christ.H.B. Adams is being released from the hospital and will be staying with his sister Bernice. They both will need our prayers. His will be a long and grueling recovery. Kenneth Powell, Paul Gibson, June McPherson, Curtis Smith, Weldon Faught and Charlie Capps all need our prayers for health. Beatrice Soto is recovering well from her knee surgery. The Weathers family in Tyler lost their son and need our prayers. Amanda Brand is coming into her last month of pregnancy. We pray that she will have a healthy child and easy delivery. The McGregor family held a memorial service for their family member last Monday. I understand the passing was sometime ago. They still need our prayers. That first year is always so difficult. Carol Bryant will face that same year of remembrance. Carol our prayers are with you as well. Please pray for our President, our government and our citizens. Please pray for our nation. Please pray for our precious troops and their families. May God please bless America and send our area some rain.
