John Ferrell, age fifteen years, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ferrell, donned the Printers Apron the first part of July and is making himself useful as a Printers Devil at The Star office.A Girl Scout Day Camp was held at the Bill Owen farm in the Sloan Community on the 8,9,10 and the 15-16 of July. Thirty-one girls registered for the five days' outing. Mrs. D.A. Cameron was unit leader and Mrs. C.M. Oliver, program director. The second group has Mrs. Jack Owen as unit leader and Mrs. Myrtle Jennings was leader for the Brownies.Miss Peggy Longmire, who is attending Scott & White Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, is spending her vacation in San Saba.Charles Oliver of San Saba, a member of the Air Force ROTC unit at Southwest Texas State Teachers College, completed advanced training at summer camp in California on July 18,

A small admission charge will be made for the barbecue and rodeo at the Gray Springs Ranch, three miles west of Cherokee on July 20, when the day will be given to rodeo events, candidate speaking and a general get-to-gether of people of that section of the county.John Gibbons, prominent ranchman of Richland Springs, has sold 20 polo ponies this year at prices of $200 to George Miller of San Antonio. Mr. Gibbons reports that no cattle have been selling yet, but that the range is superb. Sam A. Gaddy and brother, Homer D. Gaddy, have opened a bowling alley in the Williams building next door to the City National Bank.Repairs are being completed at the Fair Park here, which was damaged considerably by the recent rise in the San Saba River, and everything put in readiness for the San Saba County Jubilee and races meet which is being sponsored by the local American Legion on August 12 and 13 at the Fair Park.

The Socialist Encampment began at Richland Springs Monday, quite a crowd at this writing are already here on the grounds with their tents stretched ready to spend the four days.Paul and F.F. Edwards, W.R. Petty and W.F. Sullivan are attending the Confederate reunion at Goldthwaite this week. They made the trip in Paul Edwards' automobile.D.A.Gay of the Rough Creek community took the train here Monday on a business trip to Copperas Cove. His two sons, Masters Ed and Nelson, accompanied him on the trip.San Saba is to have a new business firm after August 1. Geo. Clark will open a men's furnishing store and will occupy the corner of the large new building just completed by Mrs. Irene G. Clark. Tom Gaines will be with Mr. Clark as salesman. Mr. Gaines has been with the J.C. Campbell & Co. firm for several years.
