July 12, 2012 the San Saba Ladies Golf Association met for a memorial dedication of a marble bench in memory of Bobby Churchill. Anita Miles, president, called on Hattie Rogers to open the dedication with prayer. The following ladies were present, Jo Ann Snow, Jo Anne Hardy, Hattie Rogers, Dorothy Sterner, Debbie Lee, Janet Hoyt, and Anita Miles. Keith Harris, our pro, was also present. Special guests were her husband, Frank Churchill, and her son, Wayne Churchill, and Brenda Land. Anita welcomed our special guests and began the presentation with Bobbie’s outstanding contributions and achievements with the San Saba Ladies Golf Association. This special time could have been titled “Remembering Bobbie”, as each lady present told of an episode in her life or a special way in which Bobbie touched her life. There were tears and laughter as Bobbie was greatly loved and was special to every member in her own unique way! My personal apologies go to the family, as in my presentation I was so eager to express how Bobbie loved Frank and Wayne and how they were her life, I failed to mention the other love of her life, her precious grandson, Carter! I feel sure, however, they do know how Bobbie loved Carter! The ladies then held their monthly business meeting with the reading of the minutes by secretary Jo Anne Hardy and the treasurer’s report given by Hattie Rogers, treasurer. The only business was the unanimous change of a ‘quorum of six members’ be omitted from the constitution. The ladies adjourned for play day with Anita calling for a game of traveling four ball point system. First Place was a tie between Dorothy Sterner and Janet Hoyt and second place went to Jo Ann Snow. Dorothy also won the Chip In Pot, as she chipped in twice, and won the Putt Pot and was the Low Net for the day. A great day for Dorothy! Debbie Lee scored the Low Gross for the day. It was great to have Debbie with us, as she seldom makes it to Ladies Day! Anita had to withdraw as she was meeting her dear friends, Martha Burnham, who has had health issues and said she hadn’t been out in town since February, and Shirley Johnson, from Spring Branch, Texas for lunch. Seemed like a good enough reason to miss a little golf! Golfers do love their golf and their ‘swinging!’
